Did the Texans purposefully flop to get a call?

BJ Kissel-"I think if it was basketball, it probably would have been ruled a flop."

~ Andy Reid on penalty on Tyreek Hill's return TD called back.

I just watched this again. It sure as hell looked like a flop to me.

I know that I am in a minority but I think the rule is both a good one and also that it was the correct application of the rule.

Harris stumbled a couple of steps after the catch but he never regained his balance. Therefore, he was in the act of falling down and the ball came out. Incompletion.

I don't want to penalize receivers for trying to make hard catches. Therefore, I would like the rules to lean towards incompletions instead of leaning towards completion plus fumble.

A rule I don't like (but I think most fans would be even more upset with this change): if the ball hits the ground as you are going to the ground but you maintain control, it is still a catch. I think this rule is too hard to ref. I would change it so if you catch the ball and fall to the ground without ever regaining your balance, the ball can't touch the ground. If it touches, incompletion.

Back in the old days, refs would make a call and since there was no review you didn't know whether refs were calling things differently or if they just didn't get a good look and made their best guess (which happened to be wrong).

Now with review you have the option of comparing this replay with that replay. So I think it makes things look worse than it is. I generally like the replay review, but I think the incontrovertible evidence is too high of bar. Switch the review to offsite and have 3 officials look at it. If all three agree, go with what they think regardless of what the original call was.

So therefore you would have a small group of officials doing the review for all of the games and would get more consistency. With so many games happening at the same time, it would take more than one crew but it wouldn't have to be one for every game that is on.

Could have made a difference. Just under 3 minutes left and the Chiefs down by just a FG. They would have had to get an onside kick recovery or they would have had very little time left (if my math is correct, around :50) if they were able to make Houston go 3 and out. But again, they wouldn't have needed a TD. I think many folks are forgetting that.

All of that being said, we wouldn't have been in a position to have the ref screw us over like that if the offense hadn't been so crappy all day long.

This is just the state of the league. Most games have pretty awful officiating.

Until they drum out all these ancient dudes trying to keep up with world class athletes, the games will continue to be negatively effected by poor officiating.

I've wondered if a program targeting players from college who won't make the league, but understand the game and have the athletic ability to keep up with the game would help improve the situation. That and full time refs as employees of a multibillion dollar a year business.

The rules need to be revamped big time across the board because they were written in a time before football was dominated by 6'4 tall 225lbs men who run like ****ing cheetahs.

We had a shot if that play was correctly called a TD.

They punted after the "fumble". Didn't matter. Refs made 10 pts worth of mistakes against KC. The team is, so not sure why you are whining about.

Every week, KC is getting bent over one way or the other - it's just not fair.

You FINALLY get it!

Seriously, I'm with you on this one. The reality is that KC needs to play better, for that kind of stuff not to matter as much. That certainly was the case Sunday. Having said that, the call was BS, but play better and it doesn't matter.

So, as my kids have gotten older and my days fill with stuff related to that... I do well to find times to watch the Denver games in full. I have little time to catch most of any other games. I'll catch pieces here and there, but I just can't imagine that there are not missed calls and bad calls in every NFL game. I think it all evens out in the end. Sure, there are some that are game changers and those are hard to stomach, but the thought that any one team or teams is the beneficiary or victim more than others... it's just silly to me.
