I had to run an errand today which resulted in me needing to park in a public parking lot that was 'pay to park.' It was $1.00 minimum for an hour. Whatever.

So I put my $1.00 in the automated machine and was away for 10 minutes. Came back. Parking ticket. I thought, "what the ****?"

Violation: $30 ticket for 'head on parking' only. It was a half vacant lot so I pulled through one spot to park 'backed in' style in the spot across from it. I didn't take up more than 1 spot and parked perfectly, and saw NO posting about warnings for this type of parking. It's such a common type of parking. I'm sure it was posted somewhere in fine print but...

I was appalled. THIRTY ****ing dollars...for 10 minutes in a spot I PAID FOR.

How can they justify that?

but all I did this morning was look at this lot, pull in, see that it was 50% empty...so instead of parking next to someone and dealing with door dings I just pulled up to the adjacent spot with no one on either side of my car...

when I came back to my car I started it up and saw an orange ticket in my windshield and thought to myself "did I enter the wrong spot # in the machine?"

then I looked at it and saw $30 and I was like "holy God" and then I scrolled down to the reasoning and saw "head in parking only" and immediately saw red.

I've been ticketed once for the same thing. The justification from the "authorities" is that I would have needed to exit driving the wrong direction in the lot.

Complete bullshit, but I didn't have the time or energy to do anything other than contribute to their beer money.

And what is being "polar bear'd"?

I got a 'safe light' ticket in Dallas for "running a red light" (one of those picture lights where they take your picture if they think you ran the light)...the only problem was, this red light...was the right turn to get onto the interstate...and there was no sign that said you couldn't turn right on red...and apparently it was the most ticketed light in Dallas because there was a huge glitch in the system...fortunately when I received the ticket I google'd it because I don't run red lights and saw the amount of complaints and called in and they immediately apologized and waived it...

but they kept the light up with the camera for all of the suckers that don't fight that stuff

it's just ridiculous

the funny thing is...there was no one way in this lot and even if there was what do they mean? You can still head left or head right backed into a spot.

there was a "polar bear" outbreak in Champaign a few years back when all of the section 8 housing in Chicago closed down causing the welfare gang to head south to find cheaper living...

the University of Illinois campus was targeted by young black men who would go out at 2-3 AM when drunk white men would be walking home from the bars and they would sneak up behind them and "polar bear" them (beat the shit out of and rob)...happened for over 30 straight nights without any arrests.

One of my friends I worked with was a victim of one of the attacks. Unfortunately, these crime alerts aren't a cause of concern for the police in a city that ALLOWS 19 year olds into bars so the police can come in and issue $300 drinking tickets to any 19 year old that is within 5 feet of someone drinking in a bar they are legally allowed to be in (but not drink)...

so they are too busy trying to bust rich 19 year old kids so they can make a buck while thugs get to beat the shit out of defenseless people and rob them with very little chance of being caught

I filed a dispute online, but I'm sure they'll shoot back with a "should've read the fine print at the automated machine! It's clearly posted!" because I'm sure people read those machines while they are PAYING for the spot they parked in.

they know they can arrest or ticket underage college kids and they will receive every nickel of the fines they issue...

"unofficial" St. Patrick's Day is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE day for the city of Champaign and they issue THOUSANDS in fines for underage drinking.

it's the one thing in life that really fires me up because I was arrested for "resisting" when I got a public intoxication ticket for jaywalking and threw a little girl tantrum when the officer handed me a ticket and threw it on the ground and told him I wasn't going to pay that for jaywalking across the street I jaywalk every day to get to my apartment

somehow that was resisting a peace officer and it cost me thousands of dollars and gave me a misdemeanor on my record

I know I wasn't right but it just pisses me off that I can be responsible, pay my taxes, hold down a job, work my ass off only to get arrested for something SO PETTY while they let THUGS get away with heinous acts like "polar bearing"

Yeah dude, it's ****ed up I realize that, but your options are limited. You either go down and fight it, or suck it up and pay the fine.

and they make so many petty arrests that fighting something and paying a lawyer is so pointless because the DA just gives you court supervision (which is nothing) and orders you to work 30 hours community service (which is nothing) so it's not even worth the $5000 to hire an attorney when you get a slap on the wrist...you just admit guilt and move on

If they deny my dispute I may just have to go down on a Thursday (fortunately my day off) and fight it. At least have my voice heard.

One of my friends got pulled over late at night by a cop looking to hand out a DUI...he wasn't drinking...his reasoning for the pull over was his light was burned out on his license plate or something.

Made him do all of the field sobriety tests (which he passed because he hadn't had 1 drop of alcohol)...after an hour of bullshit he issued him a $25 license plate light ticket.

The judge threw it out when he fought it and basically mocked him for driving an hour to fight it...but stuff like that irritates me.
