Qb Drafting Guessing game.

The stuff posted about who scouts like and who they don't, got me thinking about predraft rankings.

So lets play a little game. I tried it in another thread but it kinda got buried.

I think this will be a good visual for some of the "don't draft x QB early, he isn't Luck etc" fans.

So, I will post a pre draft scouting report and you guys try and guess the player.

Put this one in the other thread so we will start with it.

POSITIVES: Athletic passer with the physical skills and mental intangibles needed to lead a franchise at the next level. Quickly sets up in the pocket, sells ball fakes and technically very sound. Poised under the rush, steps up to avoid defenders and works to keep the play alive. Patient, buys time in the pocket and waits for receivers to come free. Does an excellent job with his reads and natural looking off the safety. Does not make mental errors and throws the ball away rather than toss the errant pass. Times the short and intermediate throws well, as receivers rarely wait for the ball out of their breaks. Outstanding vision and immediately spots the open receiver. Possesses a quick release, live arm and zips the outs or gets the ball downfield. Throws with touch. Sits in the pocket and takes a big hit in order to get the pass off. Fleet-footed and picks up yardage with his legs when necessary.

NEGATIVES: Though accurate, lacks top pass placement and has receivers extending vertically to pull the ball out of the air. Must improve his accuracy down the field. Lacks top footwork releasing the ball off a three step drop. Lacks pocket stature.

ANALYSIS: A physically gifted passer with a great understanding of the position, _____ has made himself one of the nation's top quarterback prospects the past two seasons. May not fit every system, but should quickly flourish in the NFL for a timing offense that does not throw the ball down the field with regularity. Offers a good amount of upside and is a coachable player who should continually improve his game.

PROJECTION: Early First Round

Who is it?

Here's another one.

A vocal leader in the huddle. Arm strength is not spectacular but strong enough. Not a threat to run the ball , but scrambles extremely well. Solid with his technique.
Weaknesses
Accuracy is the number one concern. 19 interceptions in 14 games is unacceptable for a first round pick. Most interceptions are a result of short arming passes

All QB's listed are currently in the league.

Positives: Has smooth muscle tone with good upper and lower body development . Displays proper upper-body mechanics in his setup . Has a snappy, quick release and the arm strength to get the ball deep . Shows a good, soft touch and the ability to sense pressure in the pocket . Elusive enough to scramble away from defenders to buy more time . Very comfortable in the short-to-medium passing attack, putting good zip behind his tosses . Really came into his own as a senior, showing the leadership and poise that was missing in the past . Has ideal size, big hands and very good running speed . Shows good pinpoint accuracy and now shows the ability to spot his secondary targets.

Negatives: Lacks a quick arm, as the ball does not explode out of his hands . Does not take command of the huddle the way he should . Plays well in spurts, but until the second half of 2002, he did not show consistency . Can be rattled under pressure . Very streaky thrower who makes poor decisions when off his game, eyeing his primary targets too long . Needs to do a better job of reading and reacting to the pass rush . Will spray the ball at times on his long tosses.

ANALYSIS
Positives... Versatile scrambler who is very tough to defend...Shows quick feet and excellent balance, smoothly dropping back from center in his set-up...Has a snappy overhead delivery and a good feel for reading defenses...Knows how to lay the ball away from defenders on his deep tosses and shows good touch on his post patterns... Confident on the field, proving that improvising is one of his stronger suits...Well-respected by his teammates as he rarely loses his cool...Puts impressive zip behind his short tosses, threading the needle on his slants...Leads his receivers well into the pass on his long outs...Eludes the rush with fluid agility and steps up in the pocket to absorb punishment rather than making a costly throw into coverage...Excels at getting outside the pocket and throwing on the run...His ability to run with the ball causes opponents to defend the entire field...Anticipates coverages, throwing to receivers away from defenders.

Negatives... Tries to carry the "weight of the world" on his shoulders too much...Seems very uncomfortable being in the limelight...Still needs to mature as a player...Sometimes gets too confident in his running skills, forgetting to eye his secondary receivers in order to run with the ball when his primary target is not available...Tends to get into a three-quarter throwing motion as the game wears on, taking a little zip off his tosses... Has a little bit of a wind-up in his release when throwing long, which makes his receivers work a little harder in order to get to the ball...Has good arm strength, but needs to refine his throwing mechanics, as he is not that quick to load and reload in his delivery.
