Somebody's gotta have the inside scoop on Google Fiber launching tomorrow..??

https://fiber.google.com/savethedate/

Live broadcast over YouTube tomorrow. Anybody have any early news on this? Will it be available all over the Metro? How long will the waiting list be?

Anybody know anything? I'm impatient.

Sucks

With the size of HD shows now, 1 terabyte of DVR storage won't last long for an entire house.
I have 300 shows saved on mine. How many are you wanting to keep?

Do you have to have a big box in your house for Google fiber?

My house currently has 3 terabytes of storage space on 3 DVRs.

Would rather have 1 kid DVR as well instead of having it all mixed up

What if you want to record Game of Thrones or some adult type show and don't want the kids watching your recording of it on the single DVR? No, I don't record Pr0n on a DVR but a show can be adult without being Pr0n.

You can lock shows by rating or channel.

But here is a problem I've run in to on my house system. There is an On Demand button on my remote. Press it and it brings up a bunch of On Demand channels--New Releases, Kids, etc., and Adult. The Adult titles and title descriptions are very graphic. You don't want your kids reading them.

But you cant block the On Demand channel. The only way to block the titles are by blocking the rating. But many of the adult ratings are "NR." Which is also the rating for a lot of news, sports, older movies and shows, even kids shows. So all of those ok shows show up as 'locked.' And you have to select it nd put in a PIN just to see the title of some show on NBC, PBS, or whatever. Really irritating.
I would love a solution, but the cable company doesn't have one

Not yet, but Spectrum is offering about $40 less a month for 100Mbps. That's 60Mbps more than the realistic speeds I get with GF (beyond GF-provided speed tests).

So, I might be going back to Spectrum.

Did you drop fiber or are you still on the wait list for installation?

It's pretty shitty to let someone who has had your service loyally for 3+ years just sit there and wait months for an install after applying for it as soon as they knew their new address.

In the mean time I get to enjoy shitty ass TWC internet...yay!
