Jenkins to IR, Avant signed, offense should be better.

Im pretty happy about this. Jenkins offered nothing aside from a would-be big play that ended with him surrendering a sure TD by running out of bounds of his own volition.

Avant knows the offense, and moreover, is pretty damned sure handed. Id really like to see what the details of his signing are, but I have to believe that this just made the offense better. Hell, he cant be any worse than AJ Jenkins at worst.

It would be great to have another receiver out on the field that could compliment Bowe, and perhaps even take some of the attention off of him. He should fit right into this offense and hopefully be able to contribute against the Broncos.

If anything it will be refreshing to see a WR that actually catches passes that Alex puts right on him.

"You spent a couple posts debating that he wasn't any better than what we already had."

Where did I do that?

I'm waiting.

I should totally document your reluctance to look facts in the face on this issue and put it in my signature.

But that would look petulant and reeruned, wouldn't you agree, eh Balllicker?

You should totally. Maybe put in there also a few nuggets about Montana being an inaccurate passer as well. Go the full nine.

He was precise on his routes. He wouldn't have played past 1999 if he couldn't run routes and therefore get open.

Hey, what do you have to do after you run the route? You know, after you've gotten open, or some separation?

How is the proof recorded that you ran a particular route successfully?

Its not catching the damn ball is it?

Nah, its not catching the ball. Catching the ball isn't a big deal. Because if you drop it, you can just make up for it later, right?

So how do you think Jerry Rice was able to become the GOAT and set passing records that won't be broken for a long long time even in spite of a handful of seasons where he dropped a lot of passes?

Come on... think this through. It must be that... his QB... what? His QB kept throwing to him because....

Because why? Come on, Wallcrawler, you can do this!

Why did his QBs keep throwing him the ball? Because they were trying to get in his pants? Because he paid them off to pad his stats? Or maybe because his timing and routes were immaculate each and every play, even if his hands let the occasional pass slip.

Which one do you think it is?

No we all get it. You believe a dude with stone hands that can run perfect routes is preferable to a guy with amazing hands who is just an ok route runner, because this guy is going to get so many chances to make a play, that he just has to make one eventually, right?

I disagree.

If you cant catch the ball, why run the route? Go play cornerback, stick to the dude's route, and make the occaisional interception.

Ill take a guy who catches the football 9 times out of 10 and is an average route runner over a guy who gets open and drops the ****ing ball on third down and brings on the punt team.

This... Is just.. Not a good take.

Who cares if a guy catches 999 consecutive passes if 75% of the time the guy is only 3 or 4 yards past the LOS and is a **** hair away from getting smoked by a linebacker?

The whole point of a wide receiver is having a guy capable of reliably being in a position to gain 6+ yards per catch. That requires separation.

As Chiefs fans this should be blatantly obvious as they've had a receiver that GENERALLY catches everything thrown at him yet is immediately taken down at the spot of the catch.

In short, you're saying you would rather have a Dwayne Bowe who is incapable of dropping passes versus a Jordy Nelson or Demariyus Thomas who can rip off 20+ yards at any time but aren't guaranteed to catch anything thrown at them.

I don't understand the obsession with ripping off 20 yard passes. The Chiefs offense needs some receivers who can stretch the field, but they can be pretty damn dangerous if they consistently convert first downs on short yardage passes. If Avant is a guy who can help do that, it's a nice upgrade.
