Denver infested with the Plague... literally.

And not just the local football team..

https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/...rk-temporarily

Quote:
Per guidance of Tri-County Health Department, Colorado Rapids August 3 game to continue as scheduled, post-game fireworks have been cancelled, and parking surrounding stadium restricted.

Following recommendations from the Tri-County Health Department and the City of Commerce City, the Colorado Rapids game with Montreal Impact on Saturday, August 3 at 7PM will go ahead as scheduled. However, it has been recommended that the post-game fireworks display be cancelled due to the confirmed presence of plague-infested fleas affecting prairie dog colonies in the surrounding areas.

Additionally, in accordance with the Tri-County Health Department’s recommendation for the safety of all attendees, parking lots at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park will be restricted to asphalt lots until further notice.

The health department feels that these precautions will greatly minimize the risk of exposure to patrons, players, and employees and help ensure a safe experience.

At this time, the post-game fireworks display will not be rescheduled. Our highest priority is the health and safety of our fans, staff, and local community.

We will continue to monitor the situation in the lead up to the Rapids home game with Montreal Impact on Saturday at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park.

Other sites that have been affected and have been closed including:

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is temporarily closed to public visitation as staff continue to assess the scope of impacted areas and implement the refuge’s prairie dog management plan. Additional information will be posted on the refuge’s website as it becomes available:

www.fws.gov/refuge/rocky_mountain_arsenal

The Prairie Gateway Open Space in Commerce City is closed along with the fields located at the corner of E. 56 Ave. and Quebec St., and E. 56th Ave. and Valentia Street. Updates are available at Commerce City: https://www.c3gov.com/
No comment on if this could make the Donks even worse.

I know there are real serious concerns about this in LA too but there they are blaming a lot of it on the huge number of homeless they have nowadays.

Interesting though as we never once had a tick/flea problem while we were out there. Never even bothered to give the dogs meds for it.
Now that you mention it, I was told by a veterinarian when I moved to Denver that fleas can't live here. It was too dry. We had just adopted a cat and he told us to remove his flea collar. So why are there fleas on prairie dogs?

It's not so much the homeless as it is the rats breeding out of control due to a never-ending supply of trash to eat. (Piled up by the homeless) so I guess we can blame those stinking homeless for being poor and I'm sure Trump has something to do with it.

We have the same problem with the prairie dog population near Seligman AZ. Game and Fish has been trapping them to assess the degree of infestation. I'm pretty sure it's drier in the high desert near Seligman than it is in Denver, and the p-dogs in Seligman definitely have plague-ridden fleas.

P-dog management usually means shooting them en masse. Lots of fun with high-velocity, explosively-expanding projectiles.

When I did my epic northern road trip last month, we stopped at a prairie homestead museum that featured white prairie dogs, which is apparently unusual.

The museum had an area where you could walk around and look at a sod house and some farm equipment, and the prairie dog holes were all around. As we walked, the prairie dogs were emphatically sounding alarms that we were in the area. And I found myself wondering why they still do that in a museum where you presumably have people regularly walking around. It seems like those prairie dogs must live a high-stress life if they're sounding the alarm for every visitor.

Well, that would sure disappoint me if we have fleas here. I've long considered that a selling point.

I'm sure they're paid to do that. For the tourists you know.
