Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

Bad enough he is probably the QB next season. If he goes beyond that then it's a huge error. We need a youth movement at QB with stronger arm. We have seen all Alex can do and it's not good enough to keep going. Surely Dorsey can see this since he was in a place with Favre and Rogers.

They keep trotting Smith out there.. so we are left with only a couple of conclusions from that.

1. that Dorsey sees enough in Smith, but believes the playcalling and snafus (along with Smith's) from the others are showing to be a problem still in yr 4.

2. sees Smith's limitations and weaknesses.. but still thinks less of Foles.

They likely will roll with Smith in 2017, but if his play doesn't improve, sure there's a chance that other arrangements will be put into effect.

There is a lot so far that I'm not liking about Alex's play (outside of that late SD game, obviously).. but I'm also not overlooking the playcalls, drops, starter injuries, and consistent warnings that Andy's teams start off seasons slowly (poorly).

They scouted Paxton Lynch hard and were rumored to have wanted to make a move for him, but we didn't have the resources.
I think Foles was a move for depth and won't be kept next year.

I think (hope) that 2017 is the year. Get a guy and have him learn a season or 2 under Andy and Alex.

Until proven otherwise I have no faith this team will actually make the right moves to draft a rookie quarterback high in the draft. We always get out-maneuvered by another team or simply ignore the position. The Chiefs brand of football is safe, stale, and boring.

I disagree with this. Not that KC should draft a QB... but that Smith needs pressure to perform. They can draft 10 QB's I don't think Smith would change his game much if at all. Smith in the 4th quarter of the SD game is no different than the rest of the quarters he's played this year, or last, in terms of style of play. The situation was different - not Smith. I think that he truly is a game manager - although I'm in the minority who don't think that "game manager" is a negative term. His accuracy was shit in the Houston game no doubt. But the game was still close and had not every single thing that could have gone wrong on the offensive side of the ball, gone wrong (i.e. dropped passes, bad passes, fumbles, abundance of penalties, bad snap, etc.) I don't think there is any way the Chiefs don't pull out a win there. If just one of two of those things don't happen - Chiefs win. His style of play changes based on the needs of the game. Not from pressure of a young QB. Not from media criticism, not from Fan criticism, etc. Game Situation - period. He's had a ton of success since 2011 playing that way, and although the pieces around him keep improving and you are starting to see him trust them more and take a few more calculated chances, he is still going to manage the game and put the Chiefs in position (the best way he knows how) to win.

It's not sexy but it's been effective, and I really don't see him changing it. From his perspective, why should he? Last weekend not withstanding, it's working. He's been winning a lot more games than losing and is signing nice big contracts with this style of play. Reid, Smith, Dorsey, Hunt have found a formula for success and I believe that they believe it can win them a Superbowl. Many of you may not believe it, and I understand your doubt, but they believe it.

Reid is a good HC.

He's a piss-poor OC and his clock management is ass.

After last season this should have been addressed but instead we now have TWO OC's (and I haven't talked to anyone who knows WTF either one does exactly) and an even more muddled play calling system...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Alex needs to anticipate these routes better.
