Deus Ex 3

How can there be a 3 if there wasn't a 2?

I've gotten into a bad habit in the last year/18 months of buying games and then letting them sit on my hard drive. So my new policy is going to be waiting and buying GOTY editions later on. Might as well save on the inevitable DLC. So this is the first one getting the 'show some restraint' treatment. Ditto for Skyrim, if I happen to go against my gut and play it.

Never played the first one for some reason even though I love cyberpunk, and this one wasn't even on my radar until I started reading some of the reviews yesterday. Downloading it now, can't wait to play it tonight.

About to sit down to the new Deus Ex game....loved the first one, never played the second. Am I in for happy times? Or can I skip the loading screens and just get right to punching myself in the groin?

Everything I'm reading is positive.

Please report back...I want to know mostly about the level of conspiracy theories injected into the plot and locations.

Played it for a couple hours, and it's really great so far. A little more difficult than I expected. Definitely worth picking up, and I mean buying over renting (or torrenting).

Having not worked the last two days, I've had a chance to spend a good chunk of time playing; probably about 15 hours. The game is really, really good, not genre redefining or anything, but very good and worth the scores it is getting.

It is hard to respond to questions about the story as even at 15 hours in, I feel like I'm just starting to get into it, which is a good thing. Im the guy that does every side quest and explores everything, so it takes me awhile to work through a game like this. The conspiracy stuff is just starting to be overtly discussed, but anyone familiar with the series will be able to read between the lines of some of the dialog and abundance, and I mean abundance, of text (email, ebooks, etc). In fact, the word "illuminati" hasn't even been used yet, though right before my last save my character says "thank you for illuminating me," which feels a bit like foreshadowing. As far as locations go, I've been in Detroit the whole time so far, but am getting ready to go to my next city.

There definitely is plenty to do and plenty of ways to do them. The versatility is nice. Both in terms of ways to attack a certain objective, and in terms of your skill trees which really allow you to play the game the way you want. Certainly not the deepest game ever in this regard, but no slouch either. The graphics can be hit or miss, from some excellent cutscenes and special augment power animations, to some rather drab and boring city textures. I should mention that I've seen a few, not many and not really a problem, graphical glitches as well.

Overall, a really good game that I would recommend to everyone.

if you are buying it for PC, do not buy it at gamestop. Gamestop has opened each one up and took the insert that gives you access to the game on another computer. I don't understand how that's not illegal, but I guess it's not.

It has to go against the TOS for the game somewhere. If Gamestop is really doing this the game publisher needs to know about it.

So what are the maps like? Are they open world sandbox, or more on-rails? Do you just go from one mission to the next, or do you get side missions and stuff like that?

Really interested in this one.

I am not too far into the game, but its kind of a mix of both linear and sandbox. I completed the first main mission and now I have the choice of 2 or 3 side missions before moving onto the next main mission, so I am pretty satisfied with that. There is definitely quite a bit of exploring that you can do, but its not overwhelming.
