Tim Tebow may not become a New York Jet after all.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos and the Jets have encountered a hangup in the language in Tebow’s contract that could nullify the trade. Schefter cites a Broncos source as saying the hangup could keep the trade from happening.

The contractual issue apparently arises from a clause in Tebow’s contract that could require the Jets to pay up to $5 million to the Broncos. The Jets may refuse to do that.

If this turns out to be a serious enough problem that the Tebow-to-Jets deal cannot be completed, then Tebow would go back on the market and the Broncos would try to find a new trading partner.

According to Schefter, the Rams may be that new trading partner, and Tebow could be shipped to St. Louis if the deal with the Jets falls apart. It’s not clear whether Tebow would prefer the Rams or Jets, or if he’ll have any say in the matter at all.

At the moment, the deal is Tebow and the Broncos’ seventh-round pick for the Jets’ fourth- and sixth-round picks. We don’t yet know what the Rams would be willing to give up for Tebow.

They're both gadget players, right? And I really don't hate this acquisition for the Jets in terms of personnel.

They've essentially acquired a stronger, slightly less athletic and fluid version of Brad Smith, who did very well in that offense, and it's a component that the team seemed to miss last year.

I have been listening to ESPN radio most of the afternoon and almost to a man, the hosts of the shows as well as all the NFL analyst they have brought on the show are saying its not a bad but an absolutely horrendous idea to trade for Tebow and that they are creating an epic disaster for Sanchez and a QB controversy. Gottlieb is the only guy I have heard that thinks it wont be an issue.

Also stating you don't trade a 4th and a 6th unless he is going to be the back up QB.

Not really the same as drafting McCluster in the 2nd round.

Organizations blow late-round picks on gadget players all of the time. Brad Smith, for example, was drafted in the fourth round by the Jets.

They've given up slightly more and acquired, basically, the same player. When Smith was drafted, no one in his right mind thought he was going to be the QB.

Same thing should apply in NY this time around; the organization traded for a wildcat option. Tebow is not and will never be a QB, so the trade isn't a disaster at all, with proper leadership from the team.

Rarely are gadgets selected at #36 overall, and I don't know anyone who would claim that McBust doesn't fill that role.
