In a blockbuster move, Provo sends Muhammad Wilkerson and Darnell Dockett to Topeka for Nick Fairley and Kamerion Wimbley. As compensation for the wildly different contract lengths, Topeka also receives a 3rd and a 5th.

Okay guys, I know I am on the short end of this trade, but I want some opinions about how bad I got fleeced. My take is that the talent is about a wash. (Essentially Wilkerson for Fairley and Dockett for Wimbley)

The big roadblock in negotiations was that Fairley was on a 7 year contract and Wilkerson was on a 4. There was also a 1 year difference in Dockett and Wimbley's contracts. Topeka wanted compensation for that difference. That would never happen in the NFL, but it's a little different in Sandbox, where a player is essentially "free" once they sign on the dotted line. So there's a lot of value in picking up a 7 year contract on a younger player.

Basically in the end, I traded a 3rd round pick for 3 years of Fairley and a 5th round pick for 1 year of Wimbley. Fairley has a chance to make that pay off. Wimbley almost certainly won't, but I ended up just agreeing to get the guys I wanted.

Thoughts?

I'm curious too on others' thoughts. The contracts were a pain in the ass because although the players were even, the $80+ difference in those even players was painful and there wasn't any way to compensate for it directly without options to trade for cash considerations. I looked at the cost of signing at those rounds and even then it doesn't come up to $80, and I also have the risk of signing players at those spots that are busts.

Idk to me there was no need in draft picks, I think the draft picks are more valuable then cash. Either way though if it helps your team out then thats ok right?

Really glad I took the chance on Ballard now. Should be the number 2 tightend unless Gronk can't go.

In the end, that's what pushed me over the edge. I feel like my team will be better this season. Now maybe come draft time I'll kick myself, but for the short term I improved.

The contracts complicate things a bit, but I think I like Wilkerson and Dockett more than I like Fairley and Wimbley. Probably a lot more. But I guess it depends on your system.

It's one of those situations where it really all depends on the simulation. Both those guys are playing out of position in my 4-3. If there's negligible downgrade to play a 3-4 DE as a 4-3 DT, then it was probably a bad move for me. If it's considerable, then I feel like I'm better off.

News Update:

We will be turning on the depth charts, updating player availability by week, and turning on the game planning elements early next week, perhaps as early as Sunday. You can use this to get your team up and running.

Kickoff for Week 1 is currently planned for July 1st. We will play the season relatively quickly because we want to get the 2013 offseason completed (2013 draft) prior to the NFL kickoff.

Good luck, everybody! And remember, you're undefeated right now.

Slight correction:

Kickoff for Week 1 is currently planned for July 8th.

Also all settings in the game planning will go to default values, so if you have any schemes you're fond of you may want to write them down.

Oh, yeah. That's what I meant to say. I blame this on society's obsession with immediate gratification.
