Netflix install knew account already

My son has a Netflix account. Yesterday he changed it so that it could be seen on two screens at once. I then downloaded Netflix on my phone and when I opened the app it already showed the profiles from his account. How the hell did it know what account and profiles to show to me?

One possibility is that he did the update on my PC where I am logged in to Google. I am also logged into Google on my phone. Either way, this is very odd and a bit disconcerting.

ahh okay. I had to deal this week with some developers that were having their mobile API authtenicate using a service account that was using pass through in violation of about 1000 different standards.

We deal with HIPAA/FERPA data in my environment. So authentication is a huge hassle. Shibboleth won't let you violate standards. We have to implement 2-factor authentication for quite a bit, and our users absolutely despise it.

they are going to have to get use to 2 factor. Any field that has anything resembling confidential data is going to have to implement 2 factor auth.

Yeah, just easier said than done when dealing with some who are set in their ways and used to telling others how they want things to operate.

yep, that’s in every shop. I remember users losing their shit when they found out their my documents weren’t on their C: drive anymore. They’ll get over it.

3 factor. RSA token, a symantec password and a Windows password. Not too big a price for improved security. Bastards still find a way to get in but it makes it harder.

Your smart phone was linked to an email account and that was "the end of privacy as we know it"?

You're just a dumbass who doesn't understand how authentication works.

That's not exactly what 3-factor authentication means. And I'd be curious to see how bastards are getting in despite an RSA token requirement.

Yeah I'm not a cyber security guy, couldn't salt my hash if I tried.
I meant that they can't get into RSA channels so they find other ways to commit espionage like the Chinese submarine hack announced today where the
Navy contractor housed sensitive data on an unclassed network.

The attacks never stop.

Holy shit, I hadn't seen that yet. That's pretty scary. 0ver 600GB of data.

Cyber security is clearly going to be exponentially important in the future..

just to be clear, that hack was our fault. Basic human error. That data was put on an unclassified network by an idiot. Why that shop didn’t have idiot proof measures in place is beyond my understanding.

Every place l worked only a few could move data from a classified network to a unclassified network and you had to have an approved ticket through the correct channels. Everything on the DOD unclassified network is assumed that at some point, will be read by our enemies.

Incidents like this one are maddening.
Yep. The new DOE cyber office shows the increased need for security in ever quadrant.

One of your devices that has your information has downloaded Netflix before from his account. This is stored.
This is why it didn't come up blank.
