Handicapping the 2015 1st rounder.

It's way early, but we can speculate some.

QB: Unless Alex Smith totally implodes, I put the odds here at 0% that we go QB in the 1st round.

RB: We have the best RB depth chart in the NFL. 0%.

WR: We could seriously use more WR options, and there's a remote chance Bowe gets cut. 35%.

TE: I think the Chiefs are going to really dig on Devin Funchess who is technically a TE, even though he's more of a Jimmy Graham pseudo-WR. 5%.

OT: Possible. The Chiefs need a future bookend at RT, and Stephenson will be entering his contract year in 2015. 12%.

OG: Not terribly likely. This franchise likes to use low-rounders at the guard position, and they're likely getting Jeff Allen back for his contract year, and they're not going to bench Fulton. You don't draft a 1st round guard and bench them. 0%.

C: Only if Hudson isn't re-signed. And Hudson has to be priority #1 this offseason, aside from tagging Houston. There's no center that warrants a mid-1st, anyway. 1%.

NT: Not on your life. 0%.

DE: I think this is quietly becoming a real possibility. The Chiefs have two DEs hitting free agency in Allen Bailey (all year starter) and Kevin Vickerson (spot starter). I think the Chiefs should re-sign both, but odds are at least one of them hits the market. Even if they do bring one of them back, they only really have the average Jaye Howard and the unknown Mike Catapano. It's possible the Chiefs go DE here. 15%.

OLB: It's possible the Chiefs go OLB here, if the right talent falls (I bet Dorsey would draft Shawn Oakman and put him at OLB, even with Dee Ford). 3%.

ILB: Only if the talent is there. DJ might be done, and Joe Mays' contract was set up to make him a team friendly cut in 2015. I hate dropping a 1st rounder on ILB, but it's unlikely the talent will be there. 4%.

CB: I think it's 2nd most likely the Chiefs go with a CB in the 1st round. They may want to cut Sean Smith, but seeing how Cooper isn't progressing as fast as they'd hoped, they might just suck it up and let him play his contract out. They just spent a 3rd on Gaines, but he looks terrible. They need a future starter to groom. 25%.

S: They're likely going to extend Eric Berry, and Husain Abdullah, Sanders Commings, and Ron Parker all provide good talent at the position

He doesn't give a rat's fart about position. It's whatever name the Decision Lens spits out after he's given them all his information on the prospects.

You guys keep on believing that he's going to take so and so position because we have a hole there or whatever, but it doesn't make a goddamn bit of difference.

Dorsey will pick whoever is left on the top of his list that the Decision Lens gives him, whatever position that is be it kicker, QB, OG or whatever.

I'd have to see how some test out, because Dorsey seems to be a measurement whore.... Arik Armstead stands out as a physical freak even though he doesn't always play like it.

Oh, depending on how bad KC's record ends up... Leonard Williams is a terror... but doubtful he comes into play. Probably will be top 3 pick.

No, he won't.

He hasn't done it yet, here, and there's zero evidence that he will, going forward.

Ford was a reach, there were WAY better options to fill the "voids" on this team, and he certainly wasn't "at the top" of the decision lens either. He chose him for a reason, not because he was X or Y guy at Z position in the draft.

And how do you know that for a certainty?

It's well known that Dorsey utilizes the Decision Lens software in building his draft list as well as narrowing down free agent possibilities.

Zero evidence, huh?:

Quote:
“In professional sports, and especially in the NFL, teams are always looking for an advantage,” remarked Decision Lens CEO, John Kealey. “Identifying the best players at the best value is the key way to gain an edge in an incredibly competitive, salary-capped league. Decision Lens will give the Kansas City Chiefs the enhanced power they need to fine-tune their analysis and decision making when it comes to analyzing and selecting players.”

"I used Decision Lens in Green Bay and I've brought it to Kansas City because I view it as a game changer for identifying and analyzing talent,” said John Dorsey, General Manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. “The Decision Lens solution helps us add analytics to complement and test our assumptions and really focus on the key trade-offs inherent in every personnel decision.”
So, what was the reason that Ford was chosen?

The evidence is GLARING, any idiot, even the mentally handicapped folks could figure it out the second he was drafted.

His reasoning? I have two Elite pass rushers, both took injuries last year, and when the defense lost its pass rush, we got smoked.

And it didn't take a rocket scientist or any mathematical formula to tell you that Ford "Might" just be one of the most talented pass rushers in the draft, and coupled with the complexity of having to sign Houston and decide what to do with Tamba, the "go to" option there was to draft Ford because you get to bank on the "new" CBA offering team friendly contracts to first round draft picks.

Seriously, some of you are forgetting how much that CBA changed the shape and mode of drafting, beyond CP's "CBA means draft a QB in the first round every year" mantra.

Almost EVERY draft pick he's made since being here in KC has been made for future replacements or depth so far, and if you go back to his tenure in Green Bay, almost every single one of his picks then followed suit with very few exceptions to that rule.

Dorsey is a "Forward thinking" team builder type. Decision Lense's advantage there is for late round analysis only with the way he's drafted.

Ford was chosen because Dorsey doesn't understand value. Clearly pass rushers are to be avoided, or picked with late round fliers.

I think he understood the value pretty well, facing having to Sign Houston and restructure Hali or let hali go after this season........

Fluently, you do realize this is a Direkshun thread though, right? Benefit of the doubt must be established here first lol.

Kind of on topic though for a moment. If I had to handicap the player position that we draft as of 10/15/14, I'm putting it at about a 75% chance we draft a CB in the first round, unless there's some kind of suspicion that Kendricks could move into the 1st round, which I doubt as of this moment.
