We've finally got a decent chinese joint in Fayetteville doing dumplings and proper ramen and such. Wife and I went on Friday and went crazy ordering small plates. So freaking good.

Chinese food in general, is good. Even grocery stores usually can do an ok job of it. Kind of Like Mexican food it is just not that hard. Except, for some strange reason, most can’t make a taco as good as I can at home. I think it is a shortage of meat and what meat they use is bland .

No. It's the food itself. It's normally higher in fiber. The MSG can make you eat more than you normally would, because it encourages appetite. So it's more likely that you're eating higher fiber food, and more of it.

It's already been going on in a lot of food progressive cities, but I predict a backlash against "Chinese" food similar to what has happened with Tex Mex where people start making distinctions between "real" Chinese food and americanized chinese food.

I guess my point being: the simple standard dishes we get on chinese buffets are no more representative of chinese cuisine than Taco Bell is representative of Mexican.

Of course, the really interesting thing is that Tex Mex has now come back into fashion where chef-based restaurants are actually embracing and elevating Tex Mex cuisine. We have a place called "The Heights Taco & Tamale Co." in Little Rock that's doing it, and it's freaking fantastic.




One of my foodie friends who is, ironically, living in Austin recently ate at a Tex Mex joint while on a business trip to NYC. My head spins with the culinary geography of that.

The ramen craze is in full effect here in Chicago. The wife and I try to hit a new spot every Friday, but sometimes I'll have it twice a week. Got my technique down and everything. I'm naturally a fast eater so it's perfect for me. My current favorite spot is BYOB which is a bonus.
