The same could be said for Toto, yet those guys played on some the most influential and popular albums of all time.

They played on and wrote the majority of Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Def Leppard pretty much begins and ends with "High and Dry" for me, the guys in Motley we're so ****ed up during "Theater" I don't doubt your claim one bit, and GnR didn't sound like GnR after "Appetite".

What they lacked was modesty and chemistry. They were all individually talented musicians. Wasn't it Kip that did the stint with Alice Cooper? Together, they were AWFUL. They could have done something unique - they had the chance to put together some kind of fusion masterpiece. Instead they took the Paul Gilbert/Billy Sheehan route (Mr. Big

) and put out god-awful radio rock.

I will say this - live they sounded JUST as tight as they did in the studio. Very few of the bands of that era could do that.
