Resurfacing Countertops
We have some 20ish year old Formica countertops that are ugly, but are otherwise in decent shape. We're redoing a lot of other stuff in the kitchen and are planning to do something to change the color of the countertops, but are debating what will be the best in terms of balancing budget, look, and durability.
In digging around online, it seems like there are a variety of options for basically painting them (with a variety of textures and such), though durability is a concern. Re-laminating them is technically an option, but sounds like a giant pain in the ass. Or we could just bite the bullet and replace them entirely. Anyone done it recently and have any recommendations? Specific options we are considering: Giani Granite Paint (DIY) - $150ish Rustoleum Countertop Transformations (DIY) - $250ish Miracle Method (pro) - $900ish |

Yeah, it's definitely an investment. However, I can outfit most kitchens for under 2500.00. PM me your lineal feet sometime if you'd like a quote.

Here's my rough layout. Everything in blue is countertop. The dark blue all has a 3" backsplash, while the light blue is direct to the wall. |

Buddy of mine did quartz or something for his island but then has SS on the rest. Looks sharp as hell. Wish I would have been more creative when we build. I like the granite but I find it boring.

can you do an under mount sink with that? To be honest, that one of the main reasons I like solid surface tops.

For what it's worth, we ended up going with the Countertop Transformations option. It looks great, though I think the real test will be 2-3 years from now to see how it's holding up. Still, for $250 and a weekend, I'm pretty pleased. Here's the full kitchen before and after (obviously a lot more than just the countertops).
