***Official draft Davis Webb in the 2nd....***

Because let's be real, we aren't drafting a QB in the 1st and Dorsey has a solid track record of drafting A QB from Cal.

TJ Watt in the 1st.

Webb in the 2nd.

Smith-Webb-Bray

Risk has to be measured.

If you think that there's a QB that has a high ceiling in this draft, and you feel that you have the people in this organization to to develop, do you take that risk.

Or do you wait another year and hope that you can get into position to draft one of these guys that is perceived, at this moment, to be better prospects.

You can make plans for that, but as we've heard, even the best laid plans can fail.

You also have to consider how every QB has more flaws exposed as they get more tape.

Both scenarios have risk.

You also have to factor in the teams current situation at the position, as well.

Let's say KC doesn't draft a QB this year that they view as a future starter and we win 11 games next year.

That means KC is forced to draft somebody next year toward the end of the first round and that kid will only have 1 year to take over for Alex Smith.

That's a shitty position to be in.

The knock on this years QB crop (and the reason it's being called a weak QB class) is because they all need a year (maybe 2) to be able to run a pro style offense. Almost none of them have taken snaps from under center, gone through progressions or had to read defenses...but a few have considerable upside.

You know what this situation reminds me of?

The Packers when they had Favre and took a project QB toward the end of the first round that had huge upside.

I think it's cool that the guy I think they take is extremely similar to Brett Favre.

I want no part of Brett Favre.
He is, next to Peyton Manning the most over rated QB ever.

I don't want a gunslinger.
I want a sharpshooter, which is how I would categorize Rodgers.

Favre cost his team more opportunities to advance to the SB, and win, than he helped them advance to.

Rodgers, with the talent Favre's teams had, would have won 3 or 4 SBs.

After the crap KC has had at QB, I'd LOVE to have 10-15 years of Brett Favre.

Especially paired with this developing defense.

Milk, just wanted to say that I liked your gunslinger/sharpshooter comparison. It's subtle, but does convey a bit of a difference. Nice.

This isn't madden.
From what I've read, this is a very lack-luster year for QBs. It's very deep at other valuable positions...Dee Ford 's 5th year option is coming as well as Hali's career being almost over. KC should stockpile defensive players this draft and sell the farm next year for a franchise QB. It sounds like its going to be one of the best QB classes in a long time. Some needy teams are going to over-draft a QB and wont be in the 2018 market.

If KC hits on just a few picks this year, they can afford to move up next season. They have a young roster that is fairly balanced.

CB is one of the most expensive FA positions as is a 3-4 OLB. If one is there in round 1, take them.

and see i completely disagree with your approach for the exact reasons you state.

i'm never on board with "selling the farm". invest what you have to buy the assets you need. we have a good qb who can put us in position to win for the next couple years. this is the perfect time to buy low on a developmental project, assuming we can identify the right one. but that's ALWAYS the trick, id'ing the right project.

if this draft is so incredibly deep, we have 10 picks to extract the value later down the draft board since it's so deep.

say i'm king of the draft room, i offer our 3rd's, not together, but individually, packaged with #27 to see which teams will buy which one to get a move up, and that is all i pay. if we can use #104, the comp 3rd, to get up far enough to ensure we get our choice, great! if we have to use #91 to do it, fine, we still have 104, and 8 other picks to work with.

Move up from the mid late 20s to the top 10? With supposedly a smorgasbord of good QBs and a lot of needy bad teams?

The price is way too high. I don't think teams would even sell

That's a shitty position to be in.
Why though?

If Smith is as shitty as so many of you believe him to be... why can't any QB... mid-late rd or early rd.. come in and do better instantly? much less after 1 yr of development.

?

Just how good is Smith then, that it should take an early 1st rd QB... with multiple years of holding the clipboard.. to better him, and get KC over the 1 game playoff hump?

That's a little less than genuine Sandy. I honestly believe a first year player could throw more than 15 td's but learning how to call plays, command a huddle, and make multiple reads will take time. (which btw the multiple reads thing isn't Alex's strong point.)

This really isn't an answer. If Smith sucks and is so replaceable... then why the need for early 1st rd QB that needs more than a yr to develop? Seriously. The way people talk here, a day 2 or day 3 rookie would do better.

I wouldn't be surprised a bit if we took Webb... and I wouldn't be upset either. He was impressive in the Senior Bowl. I just hope he's not another Jared Goff.

My top 3 QBs for KC right now would have to be Mahomes, Watson, and Webb. Most realistic IMO.
