It would have probably helped if my HS had had football when I was going there. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option.
I did play TE/Safety in Junior High at Camdenton, but considering I was about 5'2" and probably 100 pounds as a 7th grader, it's not like I was going to set the world on fire back then. I did play inter-mural football when I was in the Army (and if you think Army flag football is a non-contact sport, especially if you're a lineman, let me emphatically dissuade you from that misconception). I played mostly defense - started out as a safety, then linebacker, then finally DE as I got older. But that's about as close to organized football as I got.

As for me, I didn't get on the field my sophomore and junior season but was primed my senior season and was the #2 DB on the depth chart. Unfortunately, my appendix decided it didn't want to live in my body any longer and I missed the entire season. It was a bummer but in the end, no biggie, as I wasn't going anywhere with football. |

My son quit his team at the start of practice for his junior season. The year before 22 players on the team got scholarships from colleges. But, he wanted to do something else with his life other than play football.

As I type this, being a father myself, I realize that maybe he was a little extreme in his views. I hope that I can have a little more of an open mind when my son reaches the age where he begins to play organized sports. I've been accused of being an asshole, by people I've known my entire life and by people on this message board, so having an open mind might prove to be too difficult. |

There were a lot of small guys on here. Where are all of the 6'2" jacked MFers? It seems like everyone is 5'8" and 140.

Unlike some of you I actually had the height and weight to be a stud football player. I was 6'4 WR with a crazy vertical and a hurdle champion. Like a lot of you the fear of contact was biggest problem. My case was I was probably too smart to play football. I'm a planner and thinker type, which does not translate to a football field. Even then football coaches love physical intangibles so I got scholarship offers from every stinking D2 and NAIA schools in Missouri thinking they could get some steal. But I had no desire to play college football, and went the academic route for school instead.

The size and strength wouldn't have made a difference because I really had no interest in pursuing football, but some people do grow after high school. |

When I graduated high school, I was 6-0 and weighed 140, but it wasn't a muscular 140.

Did you play football in HS or in college?

I never understood the fear of contact thing. I embraced it. And I hate you for being 6'4!
