TLJ hit Netflix, so I'm rewatching it. This movie is a steaming pile of shit. It just seems to strike all the wrong notes for me, for some reason. Every attempt to pull at my heart strings or strike nostalgia or create awe or get me emotional just fall flat on their face and become almost like a parody.

Maybe it's just my mood right now, but it just feels so.. off.

You could have easily used CGI to make a badass force fight scene for Luke that doesn't involve him moving around all that much.

It might be the most nihilistic film I've seen in a while.

Nothing meant anything.
Every plot was a cul de sac.
Every build up of suspense was subsequently punctured and fizzled off into space like tired balloon.
There was just enough visual spectacle to qualify as a diversion if you put no thought into it. But if you thought about it at all, it seemed to be explicitly challenging you 'Why are you enjoying this? What's the point?'

It really is a steaming pile of shit. I'm a big star wars fan, and had really high hopes. But this movie was just a complete mess. The movie seemed to take a weird painful pleasure in taking long running star wars characters/ideals/canon and inserting a mess of character motivation to acknowledge that. When Rose saved Finn from crashing into the big laser machine, all I could think was "You dumb ****er, you just sacrificed the lives of all the people back in the base. Dumb greedy bitch."

Still pisses me off how Rose ruined what would have been a very poignant moment with Fins hero run to take out the cannon.

they just couldn't get out of their own way writing this movie.

I'm glad it's on Netflix. I can watch a bit of the Luke parts at least. The best scene in the movie is where Chewie busts down the door and starts cursing him out.

Chewbacca is pretty much the only character that they didn't ruin to some degree.

Wish they had Wookie subtitles.

They can nail 9 through Luke Skywalker.

If 9 starts with Kylo finishing off Leia and hunting Rey - even with Rey's arm being lopped off for good effect (we need to be afraid of Kylo). - with Luke Skywalker the White coming in to save her. Luke proceeds to teach her Lesson #3 and guide her through mastering the force.

This is where I concede that Finn and Rose's conclusion was the worst part of TLJ. Because, while I'm excited about this - wtf are those two going to do while we follow the plotlines we actually care about? (Rey Poe, Kylo).

Anywho, the pieces are there to stick the landing - and in a way that empowers Rey (theforceisfemale!) and allows Luke to get the resolution that pleases the fanbase.

Looking back, what makes it even worse is how brilliant the teaser trailer was. They absolutely nailed that trailer and built up all KINDS of ridiculous hype, only to turn around and push out that turd of a movie.

The article that stated KK not only didn't understand Star Wars but didn't even like it is just so freaking accurate.

She also underestimated the fans and their back lash for being such a dumbass. I bet if they announced her termination and that Rian Johnson would no longer have a hand in anything related to the universe they would probably have an immediate surge in sales of stuff related to Solo.
