Because they get dirty and it can prevent a bit of sidewall cracking and fading. A brown sidewall on a car with nice rims looks pretty dumb.

Some of us like our cars to look nice.

Interesting about the tire shine in the wheel wells? That doesn't just get gooped up in there?
These might be the ticket for you. I use them for the PITA spokes on my wheels but you could easily re-purpose the longest one for your wheel wells.

I used a great product called Bugslide onmy harley.

Car, a good wash, clay bar, Polish, then wax twice a year. Clean regularly with a basic car wash and /or maguires spray detail etc. but I'm loving this Bugslide. Though probably too pricey to use it for an entire car. Topcoat I've heard among bike guys as well

I don't understand, once you are old, married or have a significant other why anyone would give a shit what their car looks like. What difference does it make? I had a nice car in high school and when I was single in my early 20's, and I found value in it. Would help get looks by sloots.

I get being comfortable. Getting good gas mileage. Having a good engine to tow shit or for going super fast, even though I'm not into that stuff. Even having the inside clean, cuz you know that is where I am all the time. But the outside of my car? Don't give a shit. I had a friend who literally cleans his car two times a week, by hand, with a hose, wax the whole shabang. Takes him forever.

To each their own I guess.

They're ****ing expensive, I don't like my vehicles to look old, and I want them to last. And condition is EVERYTHING when you try to sell it.

Wonder how you'd feel if your wife said the same about her exterior appearance.

We like it for the same reason you like whatever random thing you enjoy. If you aren't interested then this thread isn't for you.

There is a reason to clean and condition tires though - it prevents cracking and brittleness.

Oh I don't know, maybe other people drive cars for enjoyment and aren't driving a ****ing Prius. Plus, taking care of something that you put money into just makes sense. I wouldn't let my house go to shit either, why would you with your car?

I'm not super OCD with every car. I am now daily driving a 2007 Civic. I will wash it maybe once per month, wax every 4 months. When I was daily driving my Mustang I was OCD. Hand wash (90 minutes) every 10 days, full wax every 2 months, cleaning rims twice per week, conditioning seats once per month.

I will say your friend is doing over-kill though. What kind of car is he doing that to?
