Car insurance question

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, one would like to buy a new car and insure said car, but their drivers license is suspended for a few months. What's the best way to go about insuring said vehicle? Option A, I guess, is to obtain a hardship license and policy after disclosing said license status. The problem with that (potentially) is that the policy might be written in such a way as to exclude driving outside the hardship conditions.

Option B is obtain a second policy under the hypothetical person's current insurance (and hope they don't run any due diligence). Option C is find a car insurer that doesn't give a shit and pay out the nose.

Any other suggestions to this hypothetical problem?

Hypothetically speaking, if someone was in the middle of a 90 day suspension on a first time DWI, then that person would be eligible for a limited driving privilege after 30 days OR immediately upon installing an ignition interlock device.

Part of the limited driving privilege is filing SR-22 insurance with the state.

If our hypothetical Missouri driver was suspended for some other dumb shit reason, like failing to appear on a traffic ticket or not paying child support, then there are other options that range from relatively cheap and easy to expensive and time consuming.

But I am not hypothetically licensed to practice law in 49 states, only for real in Missouri.

re: the financial responsibility/insurance lapse discussion
Missouri's financial responsibility statute is here. Don't ever plead guilty to this charge as it will automatically suspend your drivers license for one year.

There are three ways to violate the statute, "No owner of a motor vehicle registered in this state, or required to be registered in this state, shall operate, register or maintain registration of a motor vehicle..."

It is also against the law to let someone else operate your vehicle without it being insured. I have seen many citations for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, but I have never seen, or even heard of citations for the other two. It is impossible to register a vehicle in MO without proof of insurance anyway. However, to technically comply with the law, a person who wanted to lapse coverage would have to surrender the vehicle's tags to the state. Practically, I would recommend parking it in a garage.
Nothing in MO's statues prohibit registration of a MV while a DL is suspended, correct?

I don't believe so. Keep in mind that businesses, municipalities, and other corporate entities own lots of vehicles. Those entities cannot get a drivers license.

The statute is http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/c300-399/3010000020.htm

If there is something that forces you to have a valid DL at time of registration it is buried in some ridiculous administrative code.

However, insurance companies don't like to see breaks in coverage and they will stick you in a high risk category when you try to reinstate your policy.

That is odd that an agent would ask that question. You insure a car, not a driver. When you insure a car, every licensed driver will be covered on it unless you sign an exclusion for a specific person.
not quite. If another person regularly drives your car and you don't have them on your policy your insurer could technically void your policy. Sporadic and occasional use are okay, but say if you are married, you better have your spouse named.

My license was suspended many years back because I let my brother drive my uninsured car.
Me..."My car isn't insured. I'm not taking a chance. If you want to take a risk driving it, then it is on you."
Him..."Fair enough"
Car trouble forced the car onto the shoulder and a cop showed up asking to see registration and proof of insurance. I was in the passenger seat and the cop gave me the ticket. In Colorado its an automatic driving suspension from the DMV when you are guilty of driving without insurance. The DMV apparently sends out a register-mail letter telling you your license has been suspended...which I never received and never signed for. Shortly afterwards I got a ticket for driving under suspension even though I now had insured the car and thought I was totally legal, The fine for driving under suspension was 5 days in the city jail. Damn brothers.

Further more many let premium expire and new policy begins the following. Day. Its called better insurance at a cheaper cost. Why would they report you to DMV?

Yeah. Once they get their own car and insurance its usually a non-issue. But under 25 and they sock it to ya. I mostly hate the insurance industry. If you ever have a complaint that needs to go to the State Insurance Board be sure to write out the complaint to them. They are then obligated to look into the matter. If you phone in a complaint to them they are not obligated. (CO anyway)
