Going to be an interesting offseason.

If this Chiefs team looks like how I thinks it looks...

The offense is pretty much ready for 2018 as is, assuming Conley comes back fine. We could use some more talent on OL but really, we've made such high investments there, I'm not sure who you replace. Our entire starting five (assuming Witzmann instead of Fulton) is returning.

The passing game will look good with Mahomes, but the run game presents a big question. Spencer Ware will be returning, and I think a Hunt/Ware 1-2 punch is extremely promising, rather than Hunt/whomever.

The run defense kind of looks like its figured itself out. They've bounced back up to respectable, and Reggie Ragland's been a huge part of that. Eric Berry returning will be huge too, and I've liked KPL's development.

The pass defense was an absolute abomination, but with Revis looking good this season, am I crazy for thinking this Chiefs team can make a run? You're now talking about a secondary with Peters/Revis on the outside, and Nelson on the inside, with Mitchell as your 3rd option on the outside. That's a pretty good group of CBs. Safety will continue to be a mess without Berry.

I think this team can get a playoff win, and then push the Pats or Steelers in the divisional round. Revis and Ragland have made that much of an impact. But I'm going to temper my expectations until we get two of these wins in a row.

I think our priorities, once we do the predictable (Smith trade, DJ cut, Hali cut), should be:

* consider cutting/trading Allen Bailey
* pay a really good CB
* pay Bennie Logan
* pay a backup QB
* bring in all kinds of front seven depth
* use our 2nd rounder on the best passrusher we can find
* draft all kinds of OL and CB depth
* draft one more RB

Assuming Mahomes can play at "merely" an above average game for 2018, I think this team is a Top 4 team in the AFC in 2018.

Here are my thoughts. Probably going to be long and not make any sense....but whatever.

OFFENSE
QB: Mahomes is your starter and I would be looking to trade Smith. I don't see the need to go out and sign a backup QB. They've kept Bray around FOREVER. He knows the offense and can be a serviceable backup QB on the cheap. I'd look at drafting a late round developmental QB or an UDFA that Reid can work with to replace Bray in a year or two.

RB: We're good at RB. Hunt is cheap and West is a good 3rd string RB. Hunt/Ware/West. Nothing needed.

FB: Obviously re-sign Sherman.

WR: We are actually good at WR next year. Hill, Robinson, Conley and Chesson. Depending on the money....I'd honestly look at bringing back Wilson if he's on the cheaper side.

TE: We need to go out and draft or sign a TE. Harris can get the **** off this team. We need to go pick up a blocking TE as our #2. If he has hands.....awesome.

OT: Fisher and Schwartz are the obvious starters. We need a swing tackle and preferably one that we can work on building up to take over for Fisher in two years.

OG/OC: I'm combining these together for one reason and one reason only. It's time to re-sign Fulton and make him our starting center. Take Morse and move him to LG. It fixes two issues. Other than that...the offensive line is pretty well set.

DEFENSE

DE/DT - I would re-sign Logan and cut/trade Bailey. Bailey is never healthy and honestly hasn't gotten better over the last couple of years. We need to find another DE on the other side of Jones to help out the defensive line.

ILB - It looks like we're pretty good at this position. KPL and Ragland are your 2018 starters and Eligwe hopefully can come in off the bench.

OLB - This is where two of our draft picks need to be spent. Hali can get the **** off this team and he can take Ford with him. Hopefully between Houston, Nicholas, Kpass and a rookie can bring some heat off the edge.

CB - This and safety are going to be the biggest positions of turnover (I believe). Going into the offseason....our CB list is Peters, Revis, Nelson and Ashton Lampkin. I think we should try and bring back Mitchell on a team friendly deal (if possible). That at least gives us our starting four CBs. Here's where it gets interesting. If Revis proves to be at least 80% of his island days....then you keep him on....even with the ridiculous $8 million in bonus money. Because if Veach decides to trade Peters....you're going to need a #1 CB. If we trade Peters....then you take that pick and you find the best CB available on the FA market and sign him to be your #2.

S - This needs a complete ****ing overhaul. We need two safeties because I'm cutting Ron Parker. We can't cut Sorensen (thanks Dorsey) but he needs to be your #3 or #4 safety at best. Find a true FS and put Berry at SS. Let him cover TEs and provide run support.

Top 10 offseason moves.

1. Trade Smith.
2. Cut DJ.
3. Cut Hali.
4. Cut Ford.
5. Cut/Trade Bailey
6. Cut Parker.
7. Re-sign Logan.
8. Re-sign Mitchell.
9. Re-sign Sherman.
10. If you're trading Peters....then sign best available CB on the market.

You're a dumb terrible person and should feel bad.

Go young/old. There's more than a few QBs that would love to carry the clipboard and hang out with Andy Reid for a year.

I'd probably draft one late but it doesn't matter.

Really good point -- forgot how lackluster we are behind Kelce at TE.

That is a really, really interesting idea. I can't help but think the Chiefs will let Fulton walk, but it sure is a different line with Fulton mowing people down at center. I like Witzmann a ton as depth, too, so that would be great.

Agreed on Logan and Bailey -- never healthy and I don't know how much of a fit for our defense he is anymore. Sutton seems to be going more two-gap rather than one-gap, and that isn't Bailey's game.

Do you re-sign Jenkins?

Yeah, probably. Unless there's a three-down gem sitting there on the 2nd day, I think we should just roll with the talent we have on the roster. We'll need more depth, though -- Ramik and Terrance Smith are both gone.

Keep in mind, if we trade/cut Alex, Bailey, DJ and Hali, we'll have like $40m in cap space with Dee Ford. So he's keep-able. He's not blowing our cap or anything at that point.

So... keep him, and use that 2nd rounder on passrusher. Houston, Ford, Kpass, the rookie, and Nicholas. Zombo can even stick around if necessary -- all of a sudden we've got a good, deep roster group.

I am ambivalent with Mitchell.

What I think this team needs to do is outbid the rest of the NFL for Trumaine Johnson. He's a perfect fit for Sutton's defense and the Rams are letting him go. Johnson/Peters with Nelson in the slot. That's gold.

You let Revis go (I think)... Lampkin can stay and invest a draft pick or three at the back end of the roster.

Why are you cutting Parker?

Once we get Berry back, we'll be solid here again. Although, yeah, I'm probably buying a safety on the free agency market too.

RBs are a dime a dozen. Sure....draft one late and stash him on the practice squad.

Unless Fulton wants a ton of money and Ehinger won't be the same ever again....you really don't need Witzmann. You can have Ehinger backup at the guard positions and if Fulton goes down....you can move Morse over to the center position.

I just don't see the need to pay Ford all of that guaranteed money when we know that he's just going to get hurt again.

Like I said...I'd re-sign Mitchell if he's cheap. And I'd be all in on Johnson if we had the chance to get him. Not sure the Rams won't just franchise tag him again. If not though....I'd easily take him. And keep in mind that I'm not advocating trading Peters. I think he can turn it around and Peters/Johnson would be a hell of a combo.

I'm cutting Parker because he's getting older and he is ****ing horrendous at tackling.

That's why you have Berry, though. Parker's meant to keep the lid on the top of the defense.

The guy I'm really upset about is Sorensen. He's proven that he's not very good and Dorsey wrapped up a lot of money in this guy.

Trumaine Johnson is going to cost someone a ton of money. He's playing on the franchise tag which is $16.7 million right now. You have to figure that he's going to push to be made the highest paid CB this offseason. If you sign him to play opposite of Peters...than you're pretty much saying that Peters is gone after his rookie deal.

Maybe we just use that cap space, then, to lock up Peters (if that is an option) and Morse (who definitely is an option). Eat our vegetables, cap-wise.

Because if you're not spending a ton of money at CB, then where are you going to spend it? What big name free agents are going to hit the market?

I don't think anybody is -- but I'd take a good look at the DL. I just don't think there's anybody out there, and we have no first round pick.
