The best ****ing steak I've ever tasted. It is amazing...and unfortunately SUPER expensive. I thought it was just cow raised a certain way and massaged certain times a week. But apparently after some reading it is just a cow breed.

If it's just a cow breed, it's a little frustrating that it is 10x as expensive as regular beef. I suppose it's just a rare breed of cow at this point that is very sought after. Curious to how many of you have had it, and where? Especially in Kansas City. I've never seen it in supermarkets, and would like to buy it and just cook it my own.

There are probably less than 10 places in the Us that server authentic Waygu beef from Japan, the rest are crossbred versions and not the same.

Alexander’s in Cupertino is one that does and I ate there recently. They have like 8 of the breeds available including one that is raised in the mountains at high altitude and has never been above 32 degrees it’s entire life.

It will cost you though as they typically cost $135 per 3oz. And $185 per 3oz for the below 32 degree version

Alexander’s in Cupertino is one that does and I ate there recently. They do have a private rancher who's property is always cold. but it's the same ****ing cow just raised in the cold. Our American Wagyu ranchers have the same branding and quality systems. You just don't know about them. They do it the same way by grouping ranchers together just as in Japan. The difference is that there is no labeling system within the USDA that differentiates between the classifications F1, F2, F3, Purebred, and 100% Fullblood when dealing with Wagyu beef in the USA. In the US if it has Wagyu blood it's Wagyu.

Ranchers and cattlemens associations are setting their own standards and marketing those standards. So it's the same but different in US vs. Japan. If you want to be called Miyazaki Beef it must be 100% purebred Japanese Wagyu from the Miyachiku co-op or cattlemans assn. Miyazakigyu (a brand name) or Miyazaki Beef must be the top grade (A4 & A5) to be labeled and sold at registered outlets.

It will cost you though as they typically cost $135 per 3oz. And $185 per 3oz for the below 32 degree version. I posted the prices

Alexanders is a fine dining restaurant where their customers do not give **** what something costs. They tell people like you a bunch of bullshit and jack the prices.. That said, you actually paid $50 an ounce for a piece of beef?

Sorry but Japanese Wagyu and 100% pure Wagyu stock in the US are the same cows except ours have various diets as do the JPN varities and cost a hell of a lot less. Alexander's F1 steaks are $14 an ounce, the same grade of beef ( F1) at the best steak house in KC sells for $3.55 an ounce.

Actually i didn’t pay anything for an ounce of beef my marking department set up open check for a customer dinner so I had the Wagyu tomahawk for free. BTW same place I get my Rolex’s although still waiting in the Hurley Haywood engraving line.

Also I never stated anything about Kobe being better or worse than Waygu just that there are few places that actually sold authentic Wagyu and where I had some.

I think the difference if any in the two comes down to personal preference and mostly the chef preparing it. Regardless of which is actually better, American Kobe is still not authentic Wagyu or vice versa.

I’ll try the American Kobe next time and see if it is better in my opinion
