The Motorcycle Discussion Thread

I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

Been thinking about selling my 2014 Victory, because I just don't get to ride enough. However, it's paid for so it's not hurting anything sitting there.

How long is you riding season?
I’m in mid Missouri, so I would say April through October. There are some days in March every year I can ride, sometimes in February there is a warm day or 2.

Normally I ride everyday and to everywhere, and take 2-4 long trips a year that give me 3-4000 miles each.

The Mrs and I have about 4K on ours this year, for me not much, for her that's a lot.
Bought her a 2002 Suzuki Intruder 1500 this spring to replace her 2000 Yamaha 650 and she's ridden about 8x what she normally does already. She actually took off on a trip by herself to see some friends of ours about 350 miles away last weekend. Next weekend we're doing a Make-A-Wish ride and that will cover about 900 miles for the weekend.

Well, after only riding twice in two years in April, finally got out for a ride. Life has been busy with work and n
Buying a house, moving, getting the house and yard in order. Bike hadn’t been started since November of 18. Ride it in April of 18 to a bike night, and rode it to the new house. That’s it.

Got a new battery in it, drained old gas, out some new gas in and took it for a shakedown. Had to get a new battery , no idea how old that battery was. Volts good, oil pressure good. Brakes good. Made it a goal for this year to get my life back so to speak. Been working 55 hours a week for two years, and honestly had no energy to do much . Goal to get back into my hobby and relax a bit.

Forgot how awesome My bike sounds with cams and a tune with some thunder headers. Fired up and I was like “oh yeah.....I remember now”
Felt good.

I am also making sure I get out and ride more this year. Last year just sucked because most of the good riding roads around me were flooded and me and my riding buds didn't get out much because of that. I did a few shallow river crossings on the few rides I did last year which really wasn't all that fun. I am still worried though since the predictions are for more flooding this year. I guess I will just find some new roads and I already have a few in mind.

Nice!

With the weather about to turn I'm getting ready to build my first Honda chopper. I'm getting the tank, rear fender and sissy bar mocked up next weekend.

I dig choppers and bobbers with 4s, or parallel twins, etc. something different.
Be sure to post some pics after the mock up.

Said screw it and bought a new bike. Still have the Harley, which I’ll sell. Was gonna sell first, then get a different bike but managed to fine a leftover new 19 Ninja 1000 for a good deal. Rode it home yesterday in 30 degree weather. . Which sucked. Gonna take er for a spin today , . Short ride home yesterday, it definitely has realllly good torque for an I4. ABS, two power modes, 3 levels of traction control. 6 axis IMU......hell yes.

Been a long time since I was on a sport bike; since my '08 CBR600RR; This one feels like it has a ton more juice down low and mid (well, duh...Dayze...it's a liter bike compared to the old 600). Even though'technically, I think the categorize the bike as a sport tourer that leans a little more sport.

still getting used to how close the gearing/gear ratio is, and how little it takes on the throttle to slip into gear on upshifts. ...and not hearing a big "clunk" on each shift like the HD lol. I was actually surprised at the amount of engine breaking it has for an I4.

Played around with the adjustable 3 position wind screen; I've read the stock one is pretty meah if your 6'0 or above...and I believe it. probably have to go aftermarket, as well as finding the sweet spot body position wise to get into the calm air. but, that'll come simply by riding. my Street Glide used to have bad wind buffetting, but over time my body got used to getting into the right position. Fits me like an old glove.

just spent $600 on a battery and a tune up for my 2004 fatboy. it's only got 8k miles on it, and i haven't ridden it in about 4 years. think i'm going to put it up for sale. won't get what it's worth, but i need the room in the shed for other shit. wife says i don't ride it any more and need to sell it. told her i don't ride her much anymore either but still want to keep her around. anyway, looks like i'll probably sell it.

Sounds nice.
Yeah, engine braking is the ticket. I rarely use my rear brakes because the engine does all the work, plus having dual disc up front I get better braking and longevity out of pads.
Its gonna be a weird year for riding. I will probably get a lot more miles in because I started on 2nd due to the Corona. Hopefully when summer arrives I can get up early, hit a trout stream on some gravel 50 miles away, and get my ridding and fishing itch scratched all at once.

I hear ya.
I think all my buddies have all since sold off their scooters. Some due to getting into Razors/ATVs; some because their kids are now in sports etc. I think just myself, and my brother are the only ones left that still ride out of a group of probably 8-10 of us who use to ride damn near every weekend. Though, I only rode twice since april of 2018. I always say life comes at you in waves / cycles. there was a period of time of probably 5 years, where it just worked out where I always had a ton of time.

last 2 years changed it up on me; big work project, moved/new house etc. next thing I knew ...bam....I hadn't ridden in 2 years. my goal this year was to get some work / life balance back; and get back into a hobby that made me happy. last 2 years has been all work and no play. I know one day, the time will come where the riding days will be over. My wife wanted me to get a new Panigale because since we've started dating 20 years ago, a Ducati has always been my lust. She sad 'get a Ducati this time before your body is too old...you can always get another Harley" .

My riding was shut down due to all the flooding last year. My group doesn't like interstate and prefer country roads. Hopefully this year will not be as bad.
