New rule: 10k post limit for threads
As you may have heard about at some point, vBulletin has trouble with very large threads. From my naiive understanding, it essentially has to count every post in a thread when displaying it, so large thread put a huge load on it, especially when they're popular.

Because of that, I'm going to start experimenting with proactively closing or splitting threads that get to be too large. I'll always link back to the original thread in the OP.

If you happen to want to save me some time, it'd help if people intentionally choose to abandon those threads and start a new one once in a while like kstater has done with the K-State threads from time to time. Any mod can lock the old one with just a PM.

That is all. Now back to your regularly-scheduled programming.

That one really pained me, but I don't know what else to do. That was both our biggest thread and one of the most common threads for n00bs to click through.


The nice thing is that I can always put them all back together if the new version of vBulletin does a better job of parsing threads. It takes a lot less effort to put them together than it did to break them apart.

You can sort each individual forum by replies by picking "Sorted by: Number of replies" and "From the: Beginning" in the bottom-left corner of the page.

The SOC thread topped out just over 9k posts, which puts it somewhere around #10 on the all-time-biggest-threads list, though it would have undoubtedly continued to grow had we not declared it a "Classic" so soon.
