Yeah, but I only see two 'indefensible' picks in there; Freddie Mitchell and Danny Watkins. The rest of them were picks that didn't work out, but were good picks when made.

Greeting

This looks like as good of a place as any to introduce myself.

Hi I'm Doug and I'm a draftaholic.

I'm also a Seahawk fan, used to look forward to every Seattle Vs. KC match up back in the days when we lived in the same division, also used to dread going into Arrowhead. But I am not here to talk trash or cause any grief. I'm just here to see what Chiefs fans think might be in store for your team this off-season.

Honestly I was shocked that y'all "earned" the top pick this year. Actually though KC might push for a play-off spot. From what I saw your roster is not totally barren of talent, well except at QB.

Lurking about this place for the most part y'all seem to rightfully be in QB or bust mode, even if this on paper seems to be a lesser QB class than in the past few years. Is your need at QB so great that you'd be willing to make a slight reach for Geno Smith? Or would a more play from day one prospect at a O or D line position be a better move? I'd still go QB myself, but do you think there might be other options, like an Alex Smith or a Matt Flynn although I don't think Hawks will easily part with him just yet. Not trying to make suggestions just want to gauge other QB options.

Also will guys like Bowe and Albert be resigned or not, could Reid taking over maybe change Bowe's mind about leaving etc.

anyways thanks for having me, I look forward to learning more about your current squad and the direction Reid could take it.

First off, welcome to the planet!

I think the overall opinion here is to grab Geno Smith, or whatever QB rises to the top. I'm in the camp of sit tight and wait to judge these QB's until all can be evaluated on an even field at the combine, and draft that QB. Several drafts have yielded "no QB's" until after the combine. No doubt though, Reid knows we are desperate for some quality QB play. IMO, Chiefs have a talented roster, if it can be supplimented in this years draft we may have something to be excited about next season.

Also my opinion, but it is shared by many on this board. Albert, Bowe and Colquitt should all be resigned. No reason to not resign a proven LT, WR and best player in Colquitt when you're 16 million under the cap before cutting the fat in Tyson Jackson and Matt Cassel. You're treading water if you let them walk. They are all solid, proven players and you'll have to replace them either in the draft or in FA and gamble that they are just as good, or better than the player they are replacing.

I can't understand the debate some people are having that we should take Luke Joeckel #1 who's not even a top flight LT by most accounts, but yet in the same breath, those people are arguing against taking a QB #1.

Also, there are several fans on here from other teams and they are all welcome. As long as you respect the home team, most posters are great.

Again welcome to CP

Thanks for the welcome and the info.

I agree with the cap space y'all have getting your guys resigned should be priority #1. Get Albert locked up and all this Joekel talk goes away.

A lot of the reports I've read in the media have said Bowe doesn't want to come back, how much of that is true? How much is just posturing and/or media hype?

Also is there any news on Reid switching to a 4-3, anything concrete yet other than the logic of its what he's always ran?

Bowe wants to stay at the right price.

Reid feels we're better fit for a 3-4 and intends for us to play more 1-gap via Bob Sutton.

Isn't it nice when the coach chooses to run a scheme that suits the players on the roster rather than unnecessarily forcing a transition that makes no sense at the time you make it?

Do you guys know what 1-gap means? I see people throwing it around, but I'm guessing most people don't really understand it.

The 1 gap 34 is a predetermined lane/gap assignment by the defensive line/front. They know which slot/gap they will attempt to penentrate prior to the snap. This is supposed to force the offensive line to adjust to the defensive player. It is an "attacking" type of 34 defense.

A 2 gap is a read and react gap choice made by the defense at the time of the snap which is meant to have the defensive player control the offensive line as they move with the play. The defensive line is meant to control the offensive line players, holding them up, controlling the point so that the linebackers and safeties can make a play on the ball. It is a "controlling" type of 34 defense.

That's the basic differences.
