Song/Music Question
I stream Pandora when I'm at home and working, and I just thought of a question: when you listen to a song with words, do you really pay any attention to what the singer is saying? I don't. For example, I just listened to On Any Other Day by The Police, which I've probably heard a few hundred times in my life. Until today, when I looked up the lyrics, other than the song title, I hadn't thought about the rest of the words and didn't care enough to find out.

Is this common or uncommon?

Put it like this... great lyrics separate the great artists from the good ones.

A great song doesnt have to have great lyrics, but you pay attention to the lyrics of a great artist.

I used to have Your Arsenal and have heard various other Smiths songs, and he's a great artist, but personally... this guy might as well be from Venus to me, most of our views are likely so so far apart lol.

I've always viewed him as an ultra liberal vegan type and we probably couldnt agree on many things... nonetheless this is a beautiful song...

That's probably his best solo effort. Mick Ronson produced it and got a great set of tunes and tones out of him. I remember him touring that on SNL. Michael Keaton was the host.

I read that some in the English press dubbed him a racist and bigot because of the imagery the Smiths used, but anyone who reads his lyrics would know that is anything but the case.
I DO believe he has an issue with women, particularly fat ones. lol.

And, he has apparently has lost any love he may have had for the beat generation, or he is praising them in a most absurd and roundabout way:

Most songs done after about 1990 are not understandable....matters not the artist or kind of music. Singers do not enunciate and they run it through a ton of goofy electronics. Soundhound is a big help, you can read what the artist is trying to say.
