I think he has way more range than is necessary for Bond, but I see your point about charisma. He has it, but it's different from past Bonds. Casting him would be going further down the Daniel Craig road of dangerous assassin from a blue collar background.

I still would rather see Elba, but his age could be an issue.

That's awesome. Other than his Whitney Houston cover and Stay With Me I've not heard a lot of Sam Smith. He's a little fruity, but I certainly have a great deal of respect of his ability to sing. Dude has a good voice.
