Been listening to some vinyl for first time in about three decades.

Heard a few things about the possible resurgence of our old 33 1/3 rpm vinyl.

How about you, you have a turntable?

My stuff is old, but it was pretty good back in the day, and it is no comparison to the modern CDs in clarity.

Still fun though to play that 30-46 year old stuff.

What you got?

Seals and Crofts, summer breeze for me today prior to the Royals game.

What do you think of the comparison of the old vs the new?

I met a old guy, via his wife who works for one of my clients, who won an Emmy for sound mixing on some mid-70's hit. He claims the sound back then is far superior to the sound today.

Also, because he did not have a college degree, USF, refused him a teaching position—despite decades of experience as an audio engineer.

It's just a small setup for my office and because no one else wants to hear the shit I listen to. Vinyl never went away in punk and it's been back in metal for awhile now. For years, I would only buy new releases that were either first or limited presses. So if you're into shitty music, I have a pretty decent collection, mostly 7".

Very cool! Love it! How long have you had your equipment?

It had been so long since I had used my Mitsubishi DPEC-7 turntable I had to take the bottom off and lube it up a little for the automatic arm raising/lowering gadget to work properly.

Thread makes me sad as in 1986 I lost over 750 albums in a fire

Some were irreplaceable too.

Sad deal Joe, sorry to hear that.

It was around that time that I lost a bunch when the sump pump failed and our basement got kind of flooded. I didn't have near that many, but it was quite a few.

In retrospect, I probably could have saved more than I did but we weren't playing them much anymore at the time.

I played an Iron Butterfly album today and had to clean it up from that water but it seemed fine once I did it.

I got the Beogram around '99 from an abandoned storage closet in the basement of an apartment building in midtown KC. I picked up the receiver and speakers secondhand around 2011. I had been using various other receivers/speakers before that. I also have a Numark turntable that I use to rip my vinyl onto a PC so I can listen to it on my phone. I hate the look of it though, so I only use it occasionally.

I am thinking about picking up a new Denon though with some reward points I have through work. The replacement cartridge on that Beogram is far too expensive for this small of a setup and the shitty recording quality of the bands I listen to. Most of the stuff I listen to is self recorded on little to no budget.

Wife got me a record player for X-mas. I love it. Got some great Zepplin and Beatles and Johnny Cash albums I've been listening to. Also, the Inglorious Basterds soundtrack. Top notch.

I don't think anything sounds as good as the first time the needle hits the record.

*scratch*

And on a related note I have around 100 albums (I'm guessing, it's about 4 or 5 boxes) of records that are mostly big band and 1950's music.

I can't ****ing wait to hear these on my stereo. Once I buy a turn table (I'm very skeptical of most newer "retro producers") I plan to play some Al Bowlly and dance with my wife on the porch.

I hadn't thought about Seals & Croft in decades and then in the course of one week, HemiEd leads off this thread with their video and I learn that Glenn Campbell was once in a band with them before any of them hit it big. I love coincidences like that.
