McNabb thinks Cassel can fit in Reid's system

http://www.kansascity.com/2013/02/11...an-fit-in.html

Former Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb, now an analyst for NFL Network, believes Matt Cassel can fit in former Eagles coach Andy Reid’s system with the Chiefs.

And, said McNabb, Cassel could be the right one to help bring along a young passer in a season in which the draft is lacking in elite quarterbacks worthy of the first pick in the draft.

"It's kind of hard to judge,” McNabb said of Cassel on NFL Network’s Total Access. “In the last couple of years, he's had a lot of injuries which have put him off the field and the team hasn't been that good. If you look back at his Pro Bowl year, he was able to spread the ball around, get Dwayne Bowe the ball and he also had an attack in the run game that really helped him out in so many ways.

“But if you go back to his injuries, he has rib injuries, his throwing hand, two concussions in the last couple of years. His record since 2009 hasn't been that great...One thing you look at Matt Cassel, is this an opportunity to utilize his experience to bring up a young quarterback?

“In this draft, there aren't any quarterbacks that are worthy of going as early as that No. 1 pick. So if you decide to go and wait for the second or third round, you can utilize Matt Cassel to be your guy to warm things up to give that young guy an opportunity to get ready."

This.

Matt Cassel is a regime killer. Bad QB's get Coaches/GM's fired, and people actually think Reid would feel good about starting a regime killer? Yeah right.

Cassel's just not a starting quality QB. It's not his fault Pioli couldn't tell that.

That being said, sometimes it's time for people to move on, and you can't keep Cassel around here in KC. You just can't, and there's no reason to. Mediocre backups are easy to come by. Hell, you can just keep Quinn around for that.

McNabb doesn't get that it doesn't matter what he COULD do.

This franchise needs a fresh start at the position. End of story.

When can we cut Cassel and stop this stuff?

Seriously. I don't know. What's the earliest date we can cut him? Is it March 1st?

I've got nothing against the guy, and I hope he goes to an NFC team and has a great career, or that he goes to an AFC team and continues on his current career progression for a long time. But his time in Kansas City needs to end.

We can cut him any time. There's financial benefits to doing it at certain times.

He's technically under contract for 2 more years so there's no real significance to the start of free agency or anything like that, though.

He must have been talking about Reid's digestive system. I think he could fit in there.

ah.....well if thats the case then they probably keep him at least until after the draft and FA as protection to see how things shake out. What do you think?
