I don't care about comparing the Niners and the Jags' situation.

My point is that if the Niners trade/release Smith based on his cap number, then they are lazy, incompetent, or just want him gone. The cap is easily mauvered these days, and 7.5 mil is not a death warrant of a cap number for a quarterback to carry.

I'm no Alex Smith fan by any stretch, but the way they run Kaepernick, they'd be dumb to let a guy like Smith go that can come off the bench and not miss a beat.

It would be bad team management, plain and simple.

Most of the time, a team will let a QB find a new team if he wants to start. That'll probably happen with Smith.
