2) We did elect to keep Tyler Bray as a developmental QB this year. By all accounts he's got the tools you want but it will come down to his head. We've got time to assess that.
3) Nothing from Reid's history tells me that they won't be looking for a QB in the draft next year or in future years. To assume that it will be an afterthought for Reid just as it was for the other guys before him would be a mistake at this point.

I may be wrong, but I view this as a couple of guys who came over from another organization, assessed the situation, and decided that the first step towards rebuilding this team was to establish a winning culture immediately. Thus, Alex Smith. Unlike Pioli however, there was no immediate contract extension.

I also view this as a couple of guys who unfortunately were given the top pick in a weak draft. There was no Luck in this draft. I bet you had we taken some guy in the draft and started him and been sitting here at 3-5, there would still be people bitching that we didn't select a championship QB and would need to try again next year where there are a lot more QB's coming out.

Now again I could be wrong, and time will tell, but I bet you that Reid knows that you need a top notch playmaker at QB to win championships, and that his experience in Philly has left him hungry to finally win a ring. So I think he gets that. I think Dorsey also gets that you need a QB to win big, IE Favre and Rodgers.

But I think they also wanted to establish the culture of winning here first, make it a place that people want to play at. They also want to give Smith a chance first to prove whether he can thrive or not in this particular offense with these players.

Now based on the compensation given up, I think Smith will get a contract extension in the offseason, in order to lessen his cap hit. And I think the reason they went out and got him is that Reid felt he would be a great fit for the offense and Dorsey wanted a QB who was good enough that they didn't have to go into future drafts in desperation mode to find one. They probably figure that Smith is good enough and young enough that they can let future QB's fall to them, a la a Rodgers, Kaepernick, Wilson, Dalton, etc, and take them under the "Best Player Available" mantra. And then if Bray or one of those guys is ready to step in, I think you've seen in the past that Reid has been able to trade away McNabb when he felt he was done, and Dorsey was in Green Bay when they forced Favre's hand in order to give the job to Rodgers, who they believed in.

But again, we'll see. If we're still floundering here in 4 years, then the same mistakes are being made over and over...

Arguing about compensation, i'd say that's a very fair post.

See people? everything doesn't have to be black and white, there are shades of understanding that need to be viewed.

I love to read this shit... It amazes me how much you Chief fans complain...
Maybe it's because your hearts get ripped out every year...

I don't think it's Smiff that's the problem.. I think Bowe is overrated as hell and you rely on JC way too much even though he is an awesome player.
Smiff is a good team leader and doesn't make many mistakes.
Your offense looks like what Romeo was trying to do last year and Reid just made it work right.
8-8 -9-7 will probably be good enough for the second wildcard so you are probably already in the playoffs

I like the even handedness here, and i'll throw a compliment back, between our game and this week... the Fade are actually kinda dangerous again, rising from the ashes faster than expected, that's good for NFL football.

Raiders will be good when we get a couple studs back on the oline to block for DMC and give Pryor a little more time.

TP2 still has a lot to learn but this is the perfect year for him to do it, Raiders purged the cap and took all the hits this year. Got 2 good starters so far from the draft... (Sio Moore and Hayden) Hope Charles Woodson will come back for 1 more year.
The D is fine

I am just glad to see improvement and to see the media eat crow, I don't remember one positive media story in the off season about them.

Yall grab your glory this year, Reid has done a good job and yall deserve it but the Raiders will be back next year, maybe even playoff caliber

Did I say that?

I said 8-8 or 9-7 will get the last wildcard so you are probably already in regardless...

I see 12-4 or 11-5 for the Chiefs this year

I'll give Oakland credit because they've already won more games this season than I thought they would, but I think Pryor is going to ultimately be a failure at QB. Look at yesterday's game. If you take away the 93 yard run to start the game, Pryor had 8 carries for 13 yds. And was 10/19 passing for 88 yards with 2 interceptions. Pittsburgh is a bad team and they still win that game if Lin Suisham isn't kicking for them.

The reason this board is so negative no matter how the team is doing is that we have a cadre of 5 or 10 people whose mission in life seems to be trying to convince everyone of how smart they are. For whatever reason the medium they have chosen is screaming about how everything that doesn't go perfectly for the Chiefs portends the fact that they are a fraud, which is really tragic because the team could have been legitimate Super Bowl contenders if only they were the GM.

I think most of us realize the team has holes and going from 2-14 to Super Bowl is probably a touch optimistic, but are enjoying the ride. There are others who are unable to enjoy the team unless it validates them somehow.

The tenor of the board is so negative, and perversely it trends even MORE negative when the team is good, because if you want to make sure everyone knows you are "right" as a doomsayer you have to yell a lot louder to be heard over the cheers I guess.

They'll have their day, since this team is probably not going to win the Super Bowl. I'm sure they'll have a lovely celebration at being "proved right".

1 int on Pryor the other one was more on the WR

They are planning the game for Pryor right now for him to succeed and him being able to extend plays is the whole reason why we have won 3 games.

Raiders went ultra conservative in the second half because the D was playing so well, it almost bit them in the ass but they escaped.

Pryor is a perfectionist, and will be the real deal when he matures... Remember, he is basically a rookie.

The league will adjust to his act. You still can't be a QB in the league without being a QB.

For you and the team you root for's sake, I hope you're right. I just don't see him ever being a good enough passer to be a great QB.
