Go on Record: Next time Houston Will Play in the 20116/2017 Season

I love pulling these back up for future reference. Poll forthcoming.

For those of you joining Mr. Flopnuts in a couple Old Crows this evening this poll about Justin Houston. That's our six-year, $101 million dollar linebacker.

IF A MOD COULD MAKE THIS A PUBLIC POLL THAT BE JUST SWELL!!!

I posted a theory last year of what might have happened between the doctor, Houston and Dorsey during the Houston return last year during the playoffs. I theorize that once both Dorsey and Houston realized just how legit and close they were to actually competing for a SB based on how good they were playing, they may both have gone against the Dr.s orders to sit out the rest of the season or the Dr. said your knee is very fragile right now and needs more rest because you are on the verge of tearing your ligaments, you could play but you take a big chance.

I think both Dorsey and Houston went against doctor's orders and paid a price in the long run returning last season. But considering how well we were playing without Houston and to think if we got him back to play even better made it that much more tempting to go against the Dr.s orders because realistically we could win the SB. And who can blame John and Justin for that ?

He is out for the season IMHO.
I am now fully confident that Houston will return for game 6.

Say what you will about Mellinger's ability, but it doesn't change the words out of Dorsey's mouth.

I came away from that article thinking either Dorsey is sandbagging or Houston's prognosis is grim.

So my guess is either they are playing it safe and Houston returns early with little/no training camp. Or the 12 month initial time frame was accurate.

My best guess is that Dorsey is simply tempering expectations in an attempt to keep Houston from pushing himself too far.

If Houston can come back week 3 and be at 85%, or week 8 and be 100%, it needs to be week 8. They can't afford to dick this up when they already invested big $$$ in the guy.

I want a reporter to ask, specifically, if this is a nerve issue or not.

The ligament was never torn, per the best sports surgeon in the world...just hyperextended. Then they replaced it a few months later.

Doesn't matter. The recovery from surgery is gonna be the same.

I highly doubt it's a nerve issue. That's something you would almost certainly hear about by now.

Again, I think Dorsey and Co. are just looking to cover their tracks before they make any unnecessary promises. They have to do this thing carefully.

Seems to be something, one way or the other.

All he had to say was "he's progressing normally" and leave it at that

Not very reassuring.

No Houston and no real answer as of yet to a starting corner opposite of Peters.

I'm worried.

my take is this:

he didn't tear anything initially. so let's compare to say sam bradford.

he tore ligaments, and was back in a year.

so given houston acl wasn't working properly,

id say 8 months would be a good guess. in reality.

IMHO, our interior pass rush should do enough to hold the fort through whatever regular season time Houston misses. There's several guys who can push the pocket in a QB's face quickly, and if Hali is healthy week 1 along with Ford, that's still a damn good outside rush. Just not the top 2-3 tandem that Houston and Hali have been.

If and when we get all of that OLB group and the DL healthy and playing together, good effin' luck to whoever is the opposition.
