Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Not me. He was their friend and teammate. He did something terrible but that is their personal relationship with him. You are supposed to support your friends and loved ones when they down. That doesn't mean you condone their actions. It means you still love them.

Why wouldn't some people wear a shit in remembrance of Jovan? His teammates and best friends? Really? It doesn't mean that it means they support what he did, just to remember him for the person he was before this horrible event. There's nothing wrong with honoring the memory of someone you knew. That one awful moment shouldn't define their entire life. As I said before, Jovan never had any issues or problems like this, much like many people who let their emotions get the better of them and commit crimes of passion. I feel awful for the loss of the two families involved, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with honoring a friends memory, even in this situation.

This is akin to Penn State players remembering Paterno and Sandusky with t-shirts.

Except that those two either perpetuated or covered up crimes for years. There was a conspiracy of which both participated. Both escaped punishment their crimes for years.

Jovan Belcher went temporarily insane and/or was under the influence and did something stupid in a few seconds of his life. He killed himself and thus will not pay for his crime. Like the Penn State scandals, those left behind as victims will.

Did you ever see him in the state described by the report posted earlier?

Concussed, drunk and highly medicated?

For once, al, I disagree.

It is noteworthy if there were two guns involved for reasons having nothing to do with 2nd amendment rights.

I think people want to write this off as "Oh Belcher went crazy and killed his Gf and self in the heat of passion" (I think Denise has already bought into this version).

But if he switched guns then there are several possible inferences:
(and I am assuming both were handguns)

1) He attempted to conceal the gun from the murder because he hoped to get away with it, then perhaps had a change of heart.

or 2) He came to Arrowhead with a different purpose (perhaps after reflecting on the first killing and ditching that gun) to kill someone at Arrowhead, but he was prevented from doing that and then took his only other way out (in his mind).

So, it really potentially paints the trip to Arrowhead as a more deliberate, premeditated trip.

It is possible that someone may owe Romeo Crenel their life. It's hard to say. But someone in the middle of a rage generally doesn't take time to switch and ditch guns.

I agree completely. Klinkscale said this on the postgame and I agreed with him too.

You don't venerate a murderer-coward.

Prayers for the families and survivors, sure. "Let's play this one for Javon"?
