Pro Football Reference's simple rating system and the 2012 Chiefs

Read this post slowly and carefully. Do not skip to the end. You need to fully comprehend the content of this post to appreciate the impact of the message.

The SRS on PFR is a great tool to compare teams historically beyond W-L record. A definition:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=538

Quote:
To refresh your memory, it’s a system that’s been around forever and is extremely basic compared some of the other power rating systems out there. But I like it because it’s easy to understand.

An average team will have a rating of zero. An above average team will have a positive rating while a below average team will have a negative rating.

Every team will have a rating that is the equal to their average point margin plus the average of their opponent’s ratings, so the teams’ ratings are all interdependent.

The Colts’ rating depends upon the ratings of all their opponents, which depends upon the ratings of all their opponents (some of which are the Colts), and so on.
Let's take a look at some SRS for good Chiefs teams.

1968 +14.0
1969 +11.9

1997 +8.4
2003 +8.3

Let's take a look at some SRS for bad Chiefs teams.

2008 -9.2
1988 -5.7
1977 -4.9

Let's take a look at some SRS for bad teams throughout NFL history.

This is the SRS rating for the worst teams these franchises have fielded. Any franchise that did not hit close to -15 or worse was excluded.

2000 Cardinals -15.2
1966 Falcons -15.5
2000 Browns -14.6
1960 Cowboys -14.8
2009 Lions -14.4
1950 Packers -18.2
1991 Colts -17.3
2012 Jaguars -15.5
1972 Patriots -17.4
1966 Giants -16.8
1965 Steelers -18.3
1976 Seahawks -15.1
2009 Rams -17.4
1976 Oilers -16.8

You may have noticed I left out all of Scott Pioli's Chiefs teams.

Let's take a look at those juggernauts!

2009 -8.4
2010 -0.7
2011 -8.1

Ouch. Even when Pioli fielded a winning team, it had a negative rating. Overrated team? Yes.

We're about to get to the 2012 Chiefs. Hang tight.

Are you ready for this, Scott?

YOU'RE NOT GONNA LIKE THIS, PIOLI.

GET READY TO BURN, YOU FRAUD!!!!

The Three Worst Teams In NFL History.

T-1. 1976 Bucs -19.7

T-1. 1954 Redskins -19.7

2. 2012 Kansas City Chiefs -18.4

Hang tight, boys. Eight games left. We can still field...

The Worst Team In NFL History.

Here's the bottom line for me:

It's not just that they're losing. It's not JUST that they're HISTORICALLY inept.

It's that they're also "my shit don't stink" assholes that treat the fans like sheep and their Patriot Way buddies like kings.

I love football and I love the Kansas City Chiefs. But I'm at the point where I WISH to all that is Holy that I could quit. I would love nothing more at this point than to not care about this team anymore and move on.
That's where I'm at. It just pisses me off to no end.
I also I have to deal with the fact that I thought this team was going to be good, was excited for this season, and expressed that to the Giants/Patriots and Phins fans around me.
I look like/(am) a total ass, and no one knows shit about what's going on with this team outside of Chiefs fans. All they know is that we are indeed one of the worst performing teams in history.
All BS aside. This team IS bad, but is not THIS bad. These players have packed it in, and they did it a long time ago.
Pioli is to blame obviously. I hate him with the fire of 1000 suns at this point, but I'm pissed that it took this shit for me to see the overall level of his fail.

on the other side, Tamba, Houston, Powe, Flowers DJ, Berry.

All good players. AND they find a way to be the third worst team in the history of the mother****ing league. WHAT THE ****.
It's the NFL - every team has at least a little talent.

When you're scraping all the way down to the Lilja's, Breaston's, Asomoah's, and Draughn's of the world, you're really stretching the term.

There are maybe 10 guys on this roster that couldn't be replaced easily every FA period. Bowe, Charles, Albert, Winston, Houston, DJ, Hali, Flowers, Berry, Colquitt. Really, that's about it.

The 'this team has talent' mantra is a myth. This team has a few good players and a bunch of exceptionally replaceable spare parts. If it were well coached, it could be a .500 football team.

Really, apart from the guys that Pioli inherited, Scott Pioli's Chiefs are 22 guys off the street. It's a whole slew of JAGs supplemented by players that Pioli was fortunate enough to get from the prior regime.

Part of me wants him around in 5 years when the guys he got from Herm are done. Then we can see the true depths of his suck.

Asamoah and Hudson are going to be pretty good players IMO.

Maybe Berry if he recovers.

The rest are trash burning in a dumpster fire, apart from perhaps Poe if he develops.

You're probably right. It is just goddamn frustrating because this team isn't this bad.

Clay, could you please put all the Pioli and Chiefs fail information/evidence into one pdf or .doc file so that I can print it all out, place it in a large envelope, and mail it to 1 arrowhead drive?

If anybody else would like to join me in doing this, perhaps we can coordinate a date to mail it by? I am also open to any ideas on a fitting stamp to place on the envelope... do they still sale reprints of the inverted Jenny? I feel that is a rather apt stamp to use on this organization.

Fair statement, this team isn't this bad.

But it certainly isn't good. Getting 10 wins out of them while facing a legitimate NFL schedule would've been a heroic effort.

If I had ST renewal forms I would stick them in my printer and print Pioli fail facts all across their pages, then mail them back... probably with a big dick drawn on them too.

I'm thinking of staying in KC a few nights and going all Shepard Fairey and stenciling a bunch of red and yellow Pioli faces everywhere that read, "FAIL" across the bottom.
