Raiders -- Williams
Bucs -- Oliver
Giants -- Haskins (I think they may wait and look Jones at 17 though)
Jags -- Fant
Lions -- Hock
Bills -- Taylor
Broncos -- Lock
Bengals -- White
Packers -- Dillard
Dolphins -- Metcalf
Falcons -- Sweat
Redskins -- Bush Jr.
Panthers -- Burns
Giants -- Gary
Vikings -- Ford
Titans -- Ferrell (this was a 'screw the Chiefs' pick; they won't go this route)
Steelers -- Murphy
Seahawks -- Adderley
Ravens -- Williams
Texans -- Bradbury
Raiders -- Greedy
Eagles -- CGJ
Colts -- Wilkins
Raiders -- Tillery
Chargers -- Baker

That leaves the Chiefs a pretty hideous draft board but still options better than Ya Sin. Simmons, Irv Smith and Dexter Lawrence stand out immediately. I left Simmons on the board because he presents a clear 'Chiefs batter women' problem so I don't think he's someone we're looking at. There are another 4-5 guys I like ahead of him but the bottom line is that he simply doesn't stand out at all from that group of potential CBs. And if you move the round forward, you have to rig it pretty heavily to not get someone very similar to him still available for you in the late 2nd.

And to get it that bad I had to leave Daniel Jones on the board (which I don't think will happen; the Giants, Bucs and Broncos are likely going QB, IMO, and it will be those 3). I had to push several potential 1st round WRs down, notably AJ Brown who I think will be the best WR in this class. I kept Jacobs out of the round as well. There will be better options than a fungible 2nd round caliber CB and by a fair amount.
But that's what i'm saying in terms of the 4-5 guys. The Chiefs may have (insert CB) here rated higher than we do.

Not that it's right or wrong necessarily, but I would hope they're operating on more information than we have so I could see them taking someone you or I would have rather had in the mid late 2nd at 29

Ran out the 2nd with a bend towards reasonable outcomes that could screw the Chiefs again:

Cardinals -- Lawrence
Colts -- Layne
Raiders -- AJ Brown
Niners -- Ya Sin (earliest I could convince myself to force him up)
NYG -- Risner
Jags -- Jones
Bucs -- Jacobs
Bills -- Winovich
Broncos -- Butler
Bengals -- Lindstrom
Lions -- Love
Packers -- McCoy
Falcons -- Mullen
Redskins -- Harry
Panthers -- Cajuste
Dolphins -- Polite
Browns -- Thompson
Vikings -- Jones
Titans -- Samuel
Steelers -- Thornhill
Eagles -- Wilson
Texans -- Savage
Texans -- Long
Patriots -- Brown
Eagles -- Little
Cowboys -- Rapp
Colts -- Walker
Chargers -- Hooker

Now I think that Board is rooooouuuuugh for the Chiefs. But reasonably possible. And you're still left with JoeJuan Williams, Isaiah Johnson and Sean Bunting as CBs who I don't think are obviously worse prospects than Ya Sin. Maybe a little worse, but not a ton worse - certainly not so much worse that I'd take Ya Sin in the 1st.

Safety is uglier; Harris, Amadi, Blair, Redwin and maybe Johnson are a bit removed from the rest of the chaff there?

But ultimately I just don't care - I'd pivot. On that board I'd gladly take Ridley, Campbell, Arcega-Whiteside or McLaurin as a WR (though the back of this draft is stupid deep in WRs), Omenihu would still be nice here. Zach Allen is still on the board, as is Collier. There are some nice TE2 possibilities still around.

And that's knowing full well that I've pushed guys up in this draft just to keep them away from the Chiefs while driving guys down that don't fit us quite as well. I've made it as hard as I could imagine reasonably coming to pass and there are STILL some decent options there.

It's just not the likely graveyard that people think it could be.

Don't. Reach.

I just don't know that Clark's willing to accept the PR backlash.

I'm still chapped as hell that the Browns get all the credit for a brilliant signing and the Chiefs take shit for drafting Kareem Hunt. But it showed a yella stripe from Clark, IMO. And with the Hill stuff still hovering about - well it's just not a good look.

I don't know how Clark can stand in front of the media after cutting Kareem Hunt and defend using a 1st on Simmons. I think cutting Hunt was remarkably stupid, but it's the precedent HE set.

For the 7372747393th time, and hopefully the last: Kareem Hunt was released because he ****in lied to the team about what he did and they had to find out via TMZ.

Great.

Now do you think that's gonna make a difference when every asshole on ESPN and NFL Network says otherwise? When Fatshit McPryor goes on 810 and starts running her yap?

Of COURSE he was released due to a petty temper tantrum because Clark got bent out of shape over being lied to. But it doesn't matter. That's not the narrative that caught on inside or outside KC. According to the folks that control the media cycle for the NFL, the Chiefs cut Kareem Hunt because he abused a woman. And the Chiefs didn't do a lot to undercut that narrative once it took hold because it looks a hell of a lot better than "owner cuts player because of butthurt". Once that became the common story, Clark got to white knight himself.

Clark isn't a stupid man. He knows how this will be peddled and he'd have to go out there and tell the cameras "no guys, you've got it all wrong. Had Kareem TOLD me he hit that woman, he'd still be a Chief. He lied, that's why we cut him. So that's why it's okay for us to bring in THIS guy who hit a woman..."

C'mon. Really? You think he's gonna try to run that gambit?

I do not.

Domestic violence + recently torn ACL seems like a non-starter in the first.

That's just me though.

Well hey - if they'll take him, that's a great pick there. Get a redshirt season with a 5th year option and he'll likely be able to contribute a little at the end of the season anyway.

I'd take Simmons at 29 EASILY ahead of Ya Sin.

But I absolutely think Clark cares what the media landscape will be around that pick.

I think Clark cares too, but they probably feel good that they can do damage control if they have time to prep and get a good message ready. That's why I think the Kareem Hunt situation was different from the others, because he lied to the team and in result they were blindsided with what actually happened.

They got caught with their pants down.

If they knew about it, they would have had their security all over it and maybe the tape never sees the light of day. They could prepare. Or they could tell Hunt to be in mandatory counseling or other consequences would prevent a re-peat offense. By not knowing anything about it - and Kareem obviously saying something to the tune of “nothing happened” - they likely had no idea it was coming. Nobody likes to run a lot of businesses -like Hunt does- and get bad press in the area of DV. It effects your other businesses.
