Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Examples like that are pretty much where the book adds more to the story. I read the book before so having that extra info probably made me enjoy the movie more.

It is a rather quick read as far as non-fiction goes and really enjoyed Krakauer's other books. Particularly "Into Thin Air".

Yep, it was pretty good. Obviously, I knew they weren't going to be successful in their assassination attempt. Hitler committed suicide as the Allies were closing in if my history is correct. But I thought they did a great job of the buildup to the climax. Great acting. Much better than I expected.

Ya know... Aladin is pretty amazing. Might be my favorite Disney movie. Robin Williams is great... but really, It's the music that makes it. (I planned on watching it with my kids... but they were asleep.)

Just sayin'.

I watched The Hunted on AMC (I was sick, and candidly, too lazy to get up and pop a movie in). I like Del Torro and Jones, but it was pretty terrible.

Speaking of Del Torro, he's in a movie called "Excess Baggage", which is also a terrible movie, but Del Torro turns in a really nice performance. It is worth a watch. Del Torro does a nice job and a Young Alicia Silverstone provides decent eye candy.

Why?

Why would you have the slightest desire to watch that tripe?

Just watched both parts of Red Cliff and thought it was pretty outstanding. I had little intention of watching the second part tonight but after finishing Part I walked over to the Blockbuster by my place for Part II to get it just before the closed.

For a movie of damn near 5 hours the pacing was surprisingly good and it kept my attention the entire time. I really have no idea how over two hours could have been cut out of the US theatrical version without killing the great strategic elements before the battles.

After the crap John Woo has turned out over the last 10+ years I would have hardly guessed a great epic war movie was something he had in him.

The U.S. theatrical cut shortened plenty of scenes and cut out the Sun Shang Xiang storyline almost completely (which blows; SSX is probably my favorite Three Kingdoms character).

If I had to guess I would have figured her character would have been less likely to have been cut out to the US theatrical cut. Was the US cut pretty much just battle scenes and tea?

From what I remember it included just about every scene that didn't have SSX in it, only truncated. "Essential" dialogue only, pretty much. The Ming Ming birth scene was cut, too. There were likely others. It was a good, if flawed, film at 2 and a half hours. But it was a lovely epic, a worthy celluloid depiction of Three Kingdoms era China, at 4 hours, 40 minutes.

Watched The Human Centipede couple days ago I would say it was disappointing somewhat but watching alot of trailers and reading about it kind of spoiled it but it was a decent horror flick no so much a gross movie but the idea behind it is just so fucked up. The Doctor was the best from the start and the 2 actresses really was bland I cant wait for the sequel
