Mattresses

I have no doubt this has been done before, but I'm curious as to the preferred mattress brand/type of CP.

We currently have a King and want to stick with that size, but we'll be moving soon and need to upgrade to a new mattress. What say you CP? Anyone on here tried Purple?

It's important to get something very supportive, whether it's firm or soft. Back issues, or whether you sleep on your back, side, or front - it influences what mattress will work best for you. We ended up with a Novosbed king mattress, and a quality adjustable base from Amazon. Has worked out great.
I'm one of those guys that moves around all night. I don't think they make a mattress specific to me.

You might do that because your mattress doesn't support you well. A salesman I spoke with convinced me if you have the right supportive bed you won't need to shift all night to get comfortable. I don't move around near the way I used to.

Tempurpedic. Love it.

If you're getting older, don't cheap out on a mattress.

We just went through a year long bed saga. Built a new house and got all new bedroom furniture. Went to several furniture stores and the beds seemed cheaply made, I could just barely push on them and they wobbled. Finally found an Amish built custom solid wood bedroom set. It cost a fortune but they’ll last longer than me! Went to pick out a mattress and we had a pillow top that we’d had for 15 years that we loved. It’s kinda hard to find a pillow top now. It’s all about memory foam and hybrid. Woman talked us into a hybrid and I hated it, I sleep on side and back and I felt like I was sinking in it. Took mattress back and told her it hurt my lower back. She said I needed a firmer bed. So we got one of those. 6 months later and I think sleeping on the floor is more comfortable
Couldn’t take it anymore, went to a mattress store to look for a softer bed. Found a cheap soft pillow top that we both liked but then they uphold us on the serta adjustable frame or whatever it’s called. My wife snores like ****ing crazy and I asked if this would help and they said her sleeping inclined would help. I said sign me up.
So they deliver it last Friday and with our Amish bed it made the frame and mattress set like 5 feet up in the air.y wife couldn’t even climb into the bed and it looked plain reeruned. I had to send it back. Today we just got the new mattress only delivered because we had done a split king so we could have different inclines. We’ll see how this one is. Really depressed the adjustable bed didn’t work, now I’m stuck listening to her snore for the rest of my life

I personally couldn’t order a mattress online no matter how great the reviews

In some historic houses I've seen really tall beds and they have a small step stool to climb up. You should have bought her one of those.

I've been waking up with a sore back for a while and have been advocating that we need a new mattress. But then I tried out the memory foam mattresses and asked the price, and decided to wait for a while.

However, a couple of weeks ago I did something horrible to my back. Nothing vertebrae related, but I got my muscles messed up, and I was miserable for two weeks. I slept on the floor because I was having back spasms and stuff. I don't think it was related to our mattress, but nonetheless my wife decided that it was indeed time to get a new one.

So we went mattress shopping two weekends ago. We decided that we like really firm mattresses, and I was a big fan of a regular coil mattress that we tried out at Macy's. My wife liked it, too. Then we went to the Sleep Number place and tried theirs. I actually liked the regular mattress a bit better, but my wife was a big fan of the Sleep Number bed and I was fine with it. So we've got one being delivered in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping that I'll thrive with newfound energy from increased restfulness.

Screw that. I don't want to sleep in a bed so high that I can injure myself falling out of it. I spent three years on a ship in the Navy. Been there, done that.

Were you in two-high bunks or three-high or something else? And which bunk did you have? I'm assuming you were in a bunk anyway, based on what I've seen on historic ship tours.

While I'm asking, what were the preferred bunks? Was it luck of the draw on which bunk you got or was there a system for picking?

Three high bunk-beds. Bunk assignments come with rank/seniority. The n00bs get the top racks, because top racks suck. Next you'll migrate to the bottom rack, and then eventually the middle (although some people preferred the bottom racks because they offered the most privacy/darkness).

Never fell out of the top rack, but I did accidentally roll out of the middle rack once. It was about a three foot drop to the tile-covered steel deck. That sucked. As I recall, alcohol was a factor.

I remember one guy rolled out of the top bunk, which was about a six foot drop, one night when we hit a swell and took a 30 degree roll. The top racks had protective railings, but they only stuck up a few inches; he rolled right over it. He broke his arm. Probably lucky that's all he broke.

Not true at all. I've slept on several mattresses. High end and low end. ITs just the way I sleep. Now, when I wake up unrested and sore, I know its time to start thinking about replacement. But no mattress will keep me from moving around. None.

Thats what I've been on since 2011. Supposed to be a 20 year mattress but my waking up with numb joints is stating otherwise.

Been like this all my life. I just don't sleep well period. The job I have doesn't help.

I really want to try a CPAP but I can't afford the sleep study that goes with them. Seems pretty damn dumb that they can't just send you home with one to see if it improves your sleep.

I never would've guessed that the middle bunk was best. How many guys were in your ... dorm? bunkhole? Let's call it a dorm.
