Chainsaw Question

I bought a "chainsaw" to assist me in cutting down a large bush that died over the winter. It had some pretty substantial branches that I didn't want to cut by hand, so I purchased a "chainsaw." It's just a 10 inch electric model:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Remington...C983/203556953

I put oil in the little tank and went to town on the bush. Unfortunately, I didn't read that one has to manually press the oil button before each cut to lubricate the chain. So, the chain is now completely dull. I got a replacement chain that I think fits, but I'm not completely sure.

Does anyone have any hints or tips on how to put the new chain on without issues? I have the manual (which I've now read...) and it looks pretty straightforward, but this thing gives me the creeps.

The wife "suggested" that I pay someone to do this task, but I'm frugal and kind of wanted to try myself anyway. Obviously, she was right but I'm not going to let her know that.

Thanks.

Anyhow just adjust the bar inward until the chain gets real loose. then remove the old one.......and slip the new chain on. Make sure its over the sprocket and then adjust the bar back out so it starts tightening up the chain....make sure that the chain goes properly into the bar and around the sprocket and just keep tightening. When its tight enough, You should be able to pull the chain out from the bar maybe 1/4 inch but not much more or its still too loose.

Make sure the teeth are pointed the right way..you want the blade edge to do the work, not the ass end of it. (people put chains on backwards all the time)

I dunno , cant think of anythign else but keep your saw out of the dirt and off of chain fences or however you dulled your blade.
Oh. Yes, I didn't mention that when I got down to the stump, I basically used it in that fashion to cut the roots BELOW the ground... I got a little enthusiastic.

Okay, I was curious about putting the chain on backwards. How does one ascertain the correct direction? Are there arrows or something on the chain?

The high side of the teeth should be facing forward on the top.

I did the same thing my first time.

Live and learn.

Don't let that chain touch anything but wood, my man.

Why would dirt dull a chain much faster than wood?

Thanks. I presume that will make sense once I look at the chain.

I can't say for certain. All I know is that you hit dirt a few times, and you wont be cutting shit.

Thank you all for your help. I got the new chain on and made my first cut. Unfortunately, the chain came of the bar half way through. It scared the shit out of me. Thankfully, the cover over the sprocket stopped the chain from flying off. I took it back into the garage, thinking I had bought a chain that was too big or something. To my chagrin, I realized that I had NOT re-tightened the two bar retraining nuts...
