Worst BBQ restaurant you've ever ate at?

Went to a place call A Little BBQ Joint in Independence today. Sign outside said Burnt Ends soon to be world famous, so I go in and get the burnt ends, BBQ beans, and Cole slaw. Sides weren't terrible, but the burnt ends taste like they had beef jerky rub, were fairly tough and the saltiest thing I've ever eaten. I'm not a picky eater and I could barely finish the burnt ends.

So, what's the worst place you've had BBQ?

Heady's in Republic was the worst. It was highly recommended by several people too. Two others tie for a close 2nd, Bubba's in Springfield and Bandana's. I cant believe anyone is on here defending Bandana's, Ive had "BBQ" from a hospital cafeteria better than that shit.

This, this, and this again. Dickey's is a straight up affront to BBQ in general. I could make a better BBQ sauce than what Dickey's has, and I have never even attempted to make BBQ sauce in my life. Plus their meat was the very definition of "meh". It angers me that I've even eaten there.

Dickies in Topeka is actually above average. The operators work it every day. Way better than the defunct Famous Daves, and frankly better than a couple of the local places.

That's not what the story I linked to says. It said the Stehneys and Joe Davidson originally were partners, and the couple ran the KC-area Joe's. Davidson sold his share in the smoker biz years ago, but the Stehneys and Davidson didn't part until 2014.

Quote:
“While we come from the same tree we have slightly different variations in our recipes,” Jeff Stehney said. “But it became apparent that while I own the Kansas restaurants I don’t own all the rights. The value of my brand could get diluted.”

So three years ago the Stehneys and Davidson sat down and worked out agreement going forward.

The Kansas restaurants would change their name within five years.

Davidson could go ahead with his plan to take Oklahoma Joe’s nationwide, as long he did not open Oklahoma Joe’s restaurants in Kansas or on the Missouri side of the Kansas City metro until 2021.

Smokey Bones in Springfield, Il... the ribs were overcooked, dry and tough

Best I've ever had is a little hole in the wall called Lil Porgys in Urbana, Il... literally everything they do is outstanding

Order whatever with a side of their huge steak fries and a lemon shakeup, then marvel at the goodness... and their sauce truly is the boss, best I've ever had by far, I sop it up with the slice of white bread they give you with every order

You guys don't get it. You've been spoiled living in KC. It's harder to find the farther away you get. I could see Dickey's and Famous Dave's being the best there is in certain areas. There is A LOT of very bad BBQ out there.

Oh, and I don't ****ing use Dickey's sauces anyway. I get it to go and always have Black Market and Night of Living Dead on hand.

I've always thought of Gates as about the sauce, and OK Joe's about the meat.... and OK Joe's wins overall, IMO, even though I buy Gates sauce.

As far as Famous Dave's, went there once and thought it was decent... wouldn't ever go there again in KC, but if I really had a BBQ craving, I'd consider it.
