Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

What are you looking to do with your new gun?

Shotgun all the way if you need home defense. My dad always jokes with me by saying,"I will use my 1911 to fight my way to a shotgun."

If you are just going to just plink with a rifle. get a 22.
IMO
#1 marlin 60 Nuff said..........
#2 REM 597. This 22 has the big rifle feel to it very very accurate. Love mine
#3 Ruger 10/22 This gun has a million after market up grades. You can even make a 2/3rds scale MG-42 out of it.
#4 any of the Henry lever actions 22, accurate & affordable.
#5 buy all 4 like I did

I'm in the market for a new gun sometime in the next couple months. I have 3 options in mind, what do you think?

1) Kimber Ultra CDP II - I've been seriously lusting for a 1911 for some time now. I couldn't really decide which one, but Kimber makes good looking guns and the CDP is small enough to carry, so there is at least a little practicality for the money you're spending.

There is a Colt that has roughly the same dimensions for at least $250-300 less than the Kimber. I wouldn't be totally opposed to the Colt, but it's just not as cool looking as the Kimber, looks matter somewhat to me. Currently I carry a S&W 642 .38 special, so the Kimber would give a little variety in my carry choice. I also own an XD45, so I already have a .45, but I don't really consider that a carry weapon, so the Kimber would serve a different purpose. Has anyone dealt with the barrel rust issue on their Kimber before? Should Kimbers be avoided because of it?

2) Remington 870 Tactical - I only have the 2 pistols currently, so this would diversify my collection a little, and probably be a better home defense choice. I have always liked shooting shotguns for fun, and this gun is just damn cool looking. Plus, its about $600-700 less than the Kimber I'm thinking about.

3) A Rifle - Don't have too many thoughts on the rifle yet, so any suggestions welcome. I don't hunt so it would really only be used for recreation and I guess if the SHTF.

TIA
I have the Kimber and I have not had and issue. I love it. It is well made and shoots like a dream. It conceals nicely as well.

That's good to hear. I'm not sure how common it is, so I guess it's good that they don't all have that rust issue. I went to the gun show last weekend and held one, it definitely felt nice. I feel the call...but the shotgun or rifle might be more fun and I already have a carry gun. I shot my buddy's Colt Defense AR15 a while back and that was cool.

On the .22 rifle note, I have always like shooting those, and am currently in possession of my dad's Mark II, so I have a cheap shooting option. He also has an old .22 rifle that I could probably take for a while to get my fix for shooting a rifle. That rifle is scoped in so well, and it's a lot of fun to shoot. But if I go with a rifle I doubt I'd go .22, probably at least .223 or something like that.

Like I said a few post back. They make a 22 conversion for the AR-15.

I have yet to get my wifes permission on an AR. When I finally do I'm getting that conversion also.

Interesting reading in this thread!

My workhorse now is a Sig Sauer in 45. Perfect all around, mostly nightstand duty with some carry, as well as an occasional afternoon at the range. Don't shoot as much as I used to, but this is my favorite handgun of all I've owned. (Goes without saying I guess, its the one remaining.)

Thought I would try this scope on my Colt so I bought it. The built in bullet drop compensator & the reviews sold me on this product.
