How would YOU try to improve the defense?
Amid all the hysteria over our two wins and offensive performances, I'm just wondering what can realistically be done to improve the defense? Now we know Berry will hopefully be returning soon which should be massive, but with the way this offense is looking, just a slight improvement on defense could take us to the promise land yall. So does Veach sit, be patient and hope Berry is enough to improve things? Should he get on the phone and beg Breeland to join the kingdom? Or should he seek to make a trade of some sort?

I think I'd probably go with trying to get Breeland in and with Berry added to the mix I think the unit would be vastly improved.

...Breeland...Berry...Parker...Fuller...

With Nelson In the slot. Surely that would be enough?

Eric Murray is a special teamer, he just doesn't have it at the position.

Ron Parker would be great for that 3rd safety role but really need Watts to step up and Berry to come back.

The real fix for this defense is some more high draft picks and after cutting several big paid dudes using their money on other guys...

Can't do any of that now.

This is precisely the problem with the entire defense. Ron Parker is the ANCHOR of the back end of this defense. On any other team, he's a dime safety and special teamer.

Aside form the Bills, this defense has allowed the most points in the league. That's not a good thing. Granted we have gone up against 2 great QB's on the road...it still ain't good

The thing is, the really good pass rushing defenses don't run a lot of fancy blitzes, they win their matchups.

We don't have the personnel to do either.

When you have a guy like Eric Berry on the backend, you can run exotic blitzes and get away with it because he can cover up the holes behind it. You can't do that when you're running Terrance Smith and Eric Murray. It leads to big plays.

People are pining for something that isn't going to happen. It's not worth it.

The thing is, we aren't a really good pass rushing defense so we need to blitz. Not blitzing is leading to big plays as well so why not give yourself a chance?

They really haven't hit on any of their high draft picks outside of Chris Jones. You can't repeatedly fail the 1st and 2nd rounds and not have gaping holes on your defense. That's what leads to giving guys like Justin Houston big money and then not living up to it.
