Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

So from the guns on pages 6-7, which would you AR-philes choose? The Colt M4 comes with a free "quad rail". What is that?

The quad rail is the hand guard (over the barrel) that you can mount things on (like lasers, grips, flashlights, etc). That Colt has a regular hand guard, you can replace it with that quad rail you get for free.

Golfing with your AR....

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR225-7.html

Works on most AR-15, M4, and M16 rifles; replaces your muzzle brake or flash hider. Machined out of solid-stock steel, shoots golf balls over 250 yards using .223 BLANKS (BAM-006), do not use live rounds. No gunsmithing required. WARNING: All rules of firearm safety apply. Misuse of the golf ball launcher is potentially dangerous, and it is not a toy.

I plan on buying the one on page 6 lower right corner sometime this spring or summer. I don't care much for the free stuff CDNN throws in, I plan on accessorizing it my way.

What made you decide on that one, if you don't mind me asking?

1. It is a company from Missouri (CMMG), and I like supporting local businesses.
2. They have a great reputation.
3. It is cheaper than a Colt.
4. It is piston-driven, which means it operates cleaner.

I'm no AR expert by any means, but these are good enough for me to decide who I want to buy from.

I have one of those, you can add 5. Doesn't get as hot as a true gas operated M4.
One thing to note. If you want a quad rail you will have to get a free float system.

How hard is it to put a quad rail on an AR? The one I got is base and just has the standard, useless handguard.

Most of the quad rails out there are simple. You pull back on the slip ring, remove the hand guard and replace with your quad rail. If you get a free float system you have to remove your slip ring, barrel nut, flash hider, gas tube and the front sight. Thread the rail on the barrel nut supplied with the free float, you will not need your original barrel nut or slip ring anymore. Reinstall your gas tube, front site and flash hider.
