Server Upgrade and Fundraising.

The draft made it painfully clear that we are overdue for a hardware upgrade. The current server is now 4.5 years old and just doesn't cut it on high demand days. It was suggested in this thread that we raise some money and upgrade the server ASAP.. hopefully before training camp.

I have done a ton of research and found a solution that will only increase our monthly costs by $40-$50 but our upgrade costs will be an additional $500 due to running two servers concurrently for a month and setup fees.

So, if anyone is interested, feel free to click the green DONATE button. I will try to make sure everybody that does gets marked as a SUPPORTER but if I miss you, just post here and remind me.

Here is where we are right now...

I'm changing the thermometer graphic so we can see it go up but the actual goal was $500 and hasn't changed. I'll look for a better graphic.

Kyle,

Would you mind going into details? Operating system, memory, CPU?

I run a hosting business (a specialized hosting business for digital repositories for libraries and museums mostly) but we are fairly overbuilt. Might be able to give you hosting for free. If not now, in the future next time you overrun your hardware.

Just a thought.. the headache of switching and all may not be worth it. Totally understand that.

With the massive RAM upgrade we should be able to keep the entire table/indices in memory so yeah that is the plan.

Sweet! Just an FYI, the $500 is my best guess it could be more but I doubt it will be much more. Anything over the setup cost will go to monthly cost and any one time upgrades I can wheedle out of them.
