Madden 18: Can Patrick Mahomes get the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl?

Yes, friends, it's that time again. Let's DO THIS!!!

The Chiefs have decided to have an open competition in preseason for the starting QB job. Let the best man win.

Notable retirements:

Quote:
HC Andy Reid
FB Will Tukuafu (RIP my blocking FB)
CB Deangelo Hall (3 of the biggest INTs of the season against Alex, Miami and Washington)
QB Tom Brady
Raiders trade for Lat Murray

Chiefs re-sign

Quote:
QB Brendon David - 3 years, 2.28M
WR Chad Williams - 2 years, 1.36M
FB Corwin Conrad - 5 years, 4M
TE Nick O’Leary - 3 years, 6M
TE CJ Maynard - 4 years, 2.64M
RG Djuan Lockette - 7 years, 10.6M

DT Marcus Hall - 3 years, 3.87M
LE JT Andrews - 2 years, 1.2M
MLB Nick Vigil - 3 years, 2.4M
ROLB Keevon Dunn - 4 years, 14M
ROLB Alex Anzalone - 3 years, 1.95M
LOLB Branton Holloway - 3 years, 1.92M
CB Roy Menzie - 3 years, 1.8M

P Grant Clark - 7 years, 11.2M
This is mostly roster rabble, but Keevon is set to be a starter at OLB now, and Djuan Lockette is a cheap backup G with long-term development potential. Clark is my long-term punter.

Chiefs release

Quote:
DT Allen Bailey
DT Roy Miller
HB Orleans Darkwa
WR Chris Conley
HB Charcandrick West
LT Chris Hubbard
CB Taylor Ricard
SS Marshall Beckwith
CB Ron Parker
FB Anthony Sherman
LE Trey Davenport
LE Tanoh Kpassagnon
Mostly a load of garbage, although Ron Parker had a great season, but he's getting too old.

Free Agency

Quote:
DT Malcom Brown 81 4 yrs, 26M
MLB Anthony Hitchens 78 3 yrs 8M
WR Phillip Dorsett 76 3 years 12M
LG Hudson Gruder 76 3 years 10.7M
CB DRC 85 2 years, 13.6M
The Chiefs have a GREAT free agency period.

Brown replaces Roy Miller as an upgrade at my run-stuffer spot.

Hitchens will play LOLB and is the coverage 'backer I've been looking for.

Dorsett is a valuable depth WR who can provide a speed element if Reek gets hurt.

Gruder will battle for the RG spot with Lockette.

And though he is 33, DRC gets a chunk of cash to step in and start opposite Marcus Peters. The Chiefs are going to have a VERY solid secondary in 2019.

Oh yeah...and I guess we're going to need a new head coach.

Spoiler!

And here's your draft class:

https://imgur.com/a/ZzwbT

Quote:
I trade down and take a beast TE in the 1st to replace Kelce in two years.

The other highlights are finding a very nice mobile QB in the 6th to backup Mahomes and, out of nowhere in the 4th, a complete ****ing monster DT who will probably be starting by December.
BALLA ASS GM OFFSEASON COMPLETE! LET'S GO FOR TWO IN A ROW!

I had an extra first round pick to trade because of the Smith deal.

Turned that into several more picks via trade down.

Scouting in franchise is entirely too easy and has been for years.

It really is.

At the very least, the CPU should be making beelines for the best players so you have limited chances to get them.

But I think they need to rework the grading system entirely. You only get two attributes revealed, and the letter grading is A, B or C/below C...none of this A+/A/A- minutiae. Real scouting isn't like that.

Who wants to get in a game tonight? I'm frustrated with Ultimate Team and just need a regular team game. (Not trying to hijack your thread Clay, just an open invite)

Sounds good, I'll be on for a while tonight. Ultimate team is just a glitchy mess right now. Not to mention all these guys run the same 3 plays all game, and although it's easily stoppable, it's annoying as hell and takes the fun out of the game and makes it into a job instead.

Why is Mitch Morse so awful in this game? Really the whole o-line sucks. I didn't expect Morse to be a 90 or anything but a 75 is pretty low. I expected more like 80-83.

Go and trade for Jason Kelce. 3rd rounder and you can plug him in at LG and he's a 90 OVR.

That's so weird. I highly considered doing that when I was looking through all the centers in the league last night. Guess that's a sign I should just do it. Why have only 1 Kelce right.

I started a franchise and immediately tried to trade Smith for Fuller and a third... not even Madden is stupid enough to do that.
