HVAC thumping
I moved back into my old building (long story). One of my HVAC's is thumping. It sounds like a soft bass drum. Even when the blower is not going nor the system trying to heat. I even turned off the unit (light switch thingie on the unit). Still thumps. Around 5 times a minute. It is not rhythmic.

There it went 2x w/in 4 seconds?

It is in the old basement. There is a fair amount of water on the floor. The "Condensate Pump" is bad. I disconnected it and will let the water run on the old floor for now. I have a new one.

How come there is such a big puddle? I could understand if is was the summer and the A/C running.

I am smart enough to be dumb. I'm just trying to eliminate variables. No clue.

AHHHHH, ghosts or gremlins. Still thumping.

Damn that last one took 2.15 min.

Dunno. I have had a HVAC company to come out for the last 1.5 weeks for another issue. I don't have an emergency and have heat. They are fixing water leaks and blown HVAC systems in town.

Thoughts?

Need more info.
If you kill the power then there is something externally, wind, water or animal, causing the sound. I have no idea why you would be getting so much water.
Is it a 90% efficient, they will have a minimal amount of condensation from the secondary heat exchanger. It should be minimal though.

Do you have a separate fresh air intake that might put fresh air in through the return of that unit or into the building to keep positive pressure to help control humidity?

What filter is that you speak of?

Yea it was dirty, not terrible. I took it out this evening and will get a new one tomorrow. I had spares but alas, the wrong size.

Hadn't thought of that, but no. Return is right next to me in a vertical soffit.

Not sure, it is vented though, thus think so.

The unit is ~ 10-15 years old. Lennex I believe.

I have some friends and the above mentioned HVAC company coming when ever they can.

Just puzzling.

BTW Hog Farmer gave me a chuckle. He is too busy fishing to help.

Where is the air inlet/ outlet? under a clogged gutter? Any water inside unit?

Is the noise coming from the unit or the ductwork?

I had a similar unit that did the same, thud noises but not repetitive, mine was the ducts.

I assume it only makes noise when powered up? Is there a pattern to the noise?

Any flashing lights on the controller?

Your water issue puzzles me unless it's a heat pump unit....but then the coil should be warm unless the ac unit is not reversed. Is the water source from the A coil or furnace unit? Have you looked to see?
