Why people laugh at Creationists

Taking a lead from Killer Clown I thought I'd create a alternative thread to post some videos I like...

[EDIT New video here]

So on with the show:

Here's the Kent Hovind Theory:

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

The big issue with home schooling is the reason for it and the quality of the parents doing it. Like communism, its truest form can be successful but the odds are it will fail as greed is a stronger human emotion.

When successful home schooling > public schooling. When done to just isolate children and enforce a ideology of any type, it is the worst possible scenario for that child.

Yes. We saw many people doing it for religious reasons or because they don't want their kids exposed to the horrors of public schools (evolution/sex/etc).

It's really scary - and ugly - in that form. And tends to breed adults who aren't very good at critical thinking, asking questions, or thinking for themselves.

You're painting with an extremely broad brush there.

I probably overstated that a little. It's just based on experiences. Probably 80-90 percent of the people in our home schooling support group were doing it for religious reasons (I know this because my folks helped organize and run it, and I helped my dad compile survey responses in Excel as a Computers project).

Many of those had educational backgrounds, like my best friend's mother (who home schooled all 8 of her kids and has a masters in ed from KU). And gave their kids very good educations.

We also saw a lot who had no educational backgrounds - in a few cases, not even high school educations - doing it. That's where the scary/ugly comment came in.

I think sometimes people confuse the religious part of it.

There are parents that are fit to home school and there are parents that aren't. Religion has nothing to do with it.

You can teach your children a religious curriculum and STILL teach them to be critical thinkers. The two don't have to be, and aren't, mutually exclusive.
