Marvel unviels their next four projects

Marvel Unveils CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and ANT-MAN

Saturday’s Hall H panel for Marvel at Comic-Con was billed as Iron Man 3, but from previous experience we all knew to expect more goodies from Marvel Studios than just IM3. We were right, as the studio announced full, intriguing titles for Thor 2 and Captain America 2, confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy (including which characters will appear), and revealed test footage for Ant-Man with a surprise appearance by Edgar Wright.

Hit the jump for my full recap of this “update” portion of the Marvel panel. [Update: We've updated the article with concept art for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie as well as logos for all the upcoming Marvel films]

Chris-Hemsworth-Thor 2 the dark worldFeige opened the panel by saying that they’re working on four movies in active development. The first is Iron Man 3, hitting theaters on May 3rd, 2013. He then went on to reveal titles for two previously known sequels, and confirmed another property that we’d heard rumblings of in the past few weeks.

Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013)
Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014)

For fans of the comics, the subtitle “The Winter Soldier” should provide a hint as to where the Captain America sequel will go. The title is a reference to a comics storyline that will find Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) taking an integral role.

guardians-of-the-galaxy-movieFeige added that Zachary Levi has been confirmed as the character of Fandrel in the Thor sequel, and revealed the team that will be unleashed for Guardians of the Galaxy:

StarLord
Drax the Destroyer
Rocket Raccoon
Groot
Gamora

In a fantastic surprise, Feige then introduced Edgar Wright to talk about Ant-Man. Wright had been tweeting about being in London for the past few days in an effort to throw fans off, but he came out to a very warm reception.

“I’m taking the Terrence Malick approach to superheroes,” said Wright referring to the long road of development on Ant-Man.
Wright and Joe Cornish wrote two more drafts of the script last year, but they’ve been done for quite a while.

ant-man-movie-logoThey then revealed test footage that Wright shot for Ant-Man, after Wright toyed for a bit with the audience saying they wouldn’t really want to see a clip of stuff with wires and blue screens in it. It’s completely unfinished since they shot it two weeks ago, but they showed the footage anyway because Marvel absolutely owns Comic-Con.

The footage opened with Ant-Man sitting on a ledge in an air conditioning vent that lead to a hallway guarded by two agents. The costume was pretty metallic looking, and he snuck through the vent hole and started running down the hallway. He morphed to normal size, shocking the guards, then morphed back down to ant size and kept running. Still in “ant size” he leapt up and punched one of the guys in the face, knocking the spit out of him, then he ran and attacked the other guard.

The footage was obviously rough, but I thought the big/small effects worked great. Wright found a way to make Ant-Man’s power work in a cool and useful way on screen, while still allowing room for the playful tone that he does so well. While I was hoping we’d see someone like Simon Pegg play the role just for fun in the test footage, the actor was wearing the Ant-Man helmet the entire time so we never saw his face. The lights then came back up.

“I’ve been doing one second of that for the last six years,” quipped Wright
Wright confirmed that the costume seen in the test footage will most likely be what makes the final film. He described it as a mix between the Silver Age and contemporary Ant-Man, adding “Ant-Man will kick your ass one inch at a time.”
Wright said there’s no casting to announce, but “revealed” that Ant-Man has been here in Hall H all day, pulling out an Ant-Man title card and putting it on the table next to him.

Wright then left the stage to make way for the Iron Man 3 panel, but these bits of news from Marvel were met with wild applause from the audience. Hit the comments to discuss the goings-on from today’s Marvel panel, and read Matt’s recap of Iron Man 3 right here. [Update: Simon Pegg tweeted that he, Nick Frost, and Wright start filming The World's End in 10 weeks, then Wright will film Ant-Man sometime next year.]

If this goes down FF4 will be the next property to be given to Disney/Marvel

I wouldn't hold my breath. Good or bad, the Spider-Man series is Sony Pictures's biggest money-maker, and since Marvel doesn't need Spider-Man, and their schedule is set for the next five years, any agreement would have to be slanted toward them. I don't see Sony giving it up until their next few tank - which I'm pretty confident that they will.

And this might work out well for everyone. By the time the Avengers series is done in 2019, Marvel will either have to go to some real C-listers, or rely on rebooting the characters whose rights will, by then, be reverting to them - namely, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and, least likely, the X-Men.

More rumors: http://www.latino-review.com/news/ma...ndrew-garfield

Quote:
We previously reported on the potential deal between Marvel and Sony to share the rights to Spider-Man at a 60/40 split, and that deal seems to be the one that will potentially be jump-started if Sony Pictures Entertainment continues to stumble in their handling of the Spider-Man franchise.

Sony is understandably preoccupied with the consequences of a massive hack that includes leaked films, downed intranet services and the leak of documents and e-mails, but should this deal move forward, we've learned some more details about what Spider-Man's potential return to Marvel would entail.

The 60/40 split still looks to be the divide with Sony handling distribution. However, Marvel's not inclined to give Sony creative control over the character, nor planning on honoring the contracts with Sony's Spider-Stars. More poking into the origins of the Aunt May solo film and Female Spider movie rumors revealed that these were actual Sony Picture Entertainment plans that Marvel knew about and severely disliked. Now that Marvel can have the rights to the character back, they plan to wipe the slate with the Amazing Spider-Man universe.

IF the Marvel/Sony deal were to go forward, Andrew Garfield would no longer be Peter Parker and any baggage from existing films, Raimi or Webb, would be non-canonical, Marvel doesn't want any part of those films. The idea is that the Spider-Man romance movie has been played out over five installments, so any new Spider-Man films would focus on the difficulties of being a teenager and a superhero with a romance side-story, not the film's focus. Marvel also thinks that the origin story is well-trodden territory, so any Spider-Man movies under this deal would begin with Peter Parker already leading a dual life. Spider-Man making his debut in Captain America: Civil War is still a distinct possibility and would serve as the character's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as of now Spider-Man will NOT be in Civil War. I was told that they have a script nailed down.

Marvel's desire to remove Andrew Garfield from the role was a major point of contention with Sony's Amy Pascal, traditionally a stalwart defender of the talent in her films. However, current events leave her position slightly weakened.

Joss Whedon — ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Will Be His Last Film For Marvel
Avengers
Joss Whedon’s last turn in the Marvel director’s chair will be for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

One of the fallouts from the Sony Studios hack-attack that occurred recently was the release of thousands of emails to and from Sony executives. It was from those emails that the world found out that Marvel was trying hard to bring Spider-Man back into the Marvel fold by attempting to give him a small part in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film. Those negotiations between Marvel and Sony seem to have fallen through, but amongst all the Spider-Man chatter, another tidbit may have been missed concerning Avengers director, Joss Whedon.

One of the emails to Sony Entertainment Chairman Amy Pascal from directing team Anthony and Joe Russo, (the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier). According to Overtice.com, in that email, the Russo brothers confirm to Chairman Pascal that they will be directing Captain America: Civil War. They regret that the negotiations have fallen through with Marvel, as they would have loved to include a Spider-Man cameo in the film.

What they go on to say next is pretty huge.

Joe and Anthony Russo tell Chairman Pascal that they will be directing Avengers: Infinity Wars Parts I and II, but that directing those films won’t prevent them from directing a film called The Gray Man they’d agreed to with Sony.

The takeaway is that if the Russo brothers are taking the Avengers helm over from Joss Whedon after Age of Ultron, then Whedon won’t be directing any more Marvel films.

Of course, no one at Marvel, the Russo brothers, or Joss Whedon have confirmed any of this, but Joss Whedon has hinted that Avengers: Age of Ultron might just be his last turn as a director for Marvel. And now this released email seems to clinch it. Not that we should be crying for Joss by any stretch of the imagination. After the second Avengers film is released, Whedon will have carte blanche to do pretty much whatever he wants in television or film… considering the high likelihood that Age of Ultron will be a huge success.

Just because Joss Whedon isn’t in the director’s chair, however, doesn’t mean he won’t have a hand in the MCU. SuperheroFeed reports rumors that Joss will either be involved in the writing, producing, or both for the Avengers: Infinity Wars films.

The question now is, without Whedon behind the scenes, what sort of films will two Infinity Wars releases be? Considering the critical and commercial success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the future Avengers films are most likely in good hands with the Russo brothers.

What do you think? Will the Avengers: Infinity Wars films be better or worse without Joss Whedon at the helm?

Another bit of information from the Sony hack has revealed that Anthony and Joe Russo will be directing Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2.

The brothers who also helmed this summer’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and will be helming 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, will be taking over for Joss Whedon. Whedon directed 2012’s The Avengers and will finish his involvement at the helm of The Avengers series with next year’s highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The long rumored news was revealed in a leaked email between Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal and the Russo brothers, where the brothers pointed out how it was “a pity that negotiations with Marvel did not work” regarding news that Marvel studios tried and failed in getting the rights to have Spider-Man appear in Captain America: Civil War. They eventually went on to mention how they would be handling the next two Avengers movies.

Infinity War was announced last month at a Marvel event where the studio also announced such films as Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans. Part 1 and 2 will be shot back to back, and the films are set for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release dates.

The Russos impressed many Marvel fans with The Winter Soldier, a film that not only exceeded its predecessor Captain America: The First Avenger in almost every way, but also has earned the distinction of being one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date. They will begin work on Infinity War after they wrap on their upcoming film The Gray Man.

Marvel obviously must be happy with the Russos as well, seeing as how they are making them more involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On a side note, in another email sent out on November 17, 2014, the Russos also said that they would be willing to produce the new Spider-Man films as a result of a new contract. This is a move that would push out current producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach. As of now, the details of this deal are still unknown.

Not really sure about that. The budgets have risen and the box office receipts have gone down.

Your best hope is a spin off.. They killed what 3 characters and Castle is a popular show.

Funny enough rewatching Buffy, he was the host for the 1st evil called caleb and felicia Day was a Slayer also.. Funny stuff you see when you go back and rewatch old shows.
