Younger players have averaged more games after surgery -- 33.7 to 26.3, not counting players who are just returning this season.

It is extremely rare for a non-established starter to successfully return from a microfracture.

While many starting-caliber players have been able to return to that role after undergoing a microfracture, reserves often see their career come to an end. Charlie Batch is the most notable exception to this rule. Younger players like Gordon, Lepsis and DeShaun Foster have also been able to improve after getting on to the field, but players who are established backups have not been so fortunate.

I can't see how they are depending on these guys when they don't even know whether they can stay healthy or play in the NFL.

Abdullah and Fasano are the planned starters imo

I'm not sure... ACL used to be the kiss of death, and then Adrian Peterson demonstrated the advances of modern medicine.

I don't think we can depend on Kelcey or Commings, but that doesn't mean they should be completely written off, either.

Then again, we're talking about a third and fifth rounder. If they come back at 100%, we still shouldn't be depending on them.

Here's a good article from ChiefsSpin.com - (copy & paste)chiefsspin.com/understanding-microfracture-helps-with-timeline

More closely related to Kelce's situation. Great read

At this point Abdullah penciled in as starting FS, definitely the right move before off season camps, imo.

Yup, loved his play when he actually saw the field. Hopefully he can play that way over the entire season.

2. The Chiefs raised eyebrows when they ignored the receiver position to use the No. 23 overall pick on pass rusher Dee Ford. With Dwayne Bowe and Donnie Avery projected as Kansas City's top two wideouts, general manager John Dorsey pointed to Travis Kelce as a candidate to "stretch the field as a tight end," per The MMQB.com. After missing nearly his entire rookie season due to microfracture surgery, Kelce has a legitimate chance to jump in and contribute in Year 2.

When Reid pulls his head out of his ass Kelce will become a force in the Red Zone.

Agree. He should be our JImmy Graham. They should move him around and never pull him out!

I don't think he is Jimmy Graham, but he can be a deadly weapon.

The Eagles had TEs, but they never used them as much more than glorified short yardage receivers up until Brent Celek.

Even if Kelce has top 5 NFL TE potential, Reid will undoubtedly be the thing that holds him back
