Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

As for a vertical grip, I used a grippod, which has a built-in bipod. Light, sturdy, and used by our troops in the field. For the flashlight, you'll find that you won't use it, it basically adds needless weight and just gets in the way. You're not going on any SWAT ops, and this probably won't the weapon you'll be going through your house in the dark with if somebody breaks in. I sold the flashlight holder trigger grip I initially bought, and replaced it with the inexpensive mount pictured below. If I need to put it on the rifle, I can add it quickly, in exactly the spot I can hit the switch with my thumb.

Yea, I'm not looking to add a lot of frills either. As far as tactical upgrades go it will be a free float rail system (which I have picked out), flash light, upgraded stock and pistol grip, sling and the ACOG. Possibility of changing out the trigger as well. But I won't know about that until I have actually shot it.

And then a few cosmetic touches to finish it off.

Yea you are probably right ... I really want something on one of my weapons (glock 21 maybe) with a light because the dark is your friend in your own house because you know where you are at and the intruder won't.. I really like the Hogue stuff... I am sure they have a vertical grip...I am not really interested in a Bipod

For a pistol, I have a Viridian C5L combo green laser/light. The light can be set to strobe and is very bright - so you can hit somebody with strobe in the dark and absolutely blind them AND have a green dot right in their ****ing face.

You can get those from OpticsPlanet. And if you mount it on a Glock, you'll also be able to find a holster that will accommodate it. I have one for my XDm. Unfortunately, I can't use it anymore because I upgraded the sights, and the front sight sticks now.

What free float rail are you getting?

I would suggest getting a low profile rail, like Troy. The YHM, MTG, and others are way to large IMO. My father put a YHM rail on a build last year and it's so big it feels like an Aresol can is mounted to his gun.

A small profile Troy runs around 160, and you can get a low profile gas block and have the rail cover it if you want it to look cool.

I received my 14.5" Palmetto Upper and I am going to put a low profile GB with Troy rail. It will be extremely light weight and usable.

The 14.5 is noticably shorter than my other two 16" AR's. I love it.

Does that have a way to mount rail attachments on the bottom? I've found I have absolutely no use for the rail on top of the foregrip, but was very glad I had the option to attach stuff to the bottom and sides.

"The VTAC Alpha Rail is Troy Industries latest version of the extremely popular VTAC Extreme rail that was designed specifically for Kyle Lamb of Viking Tactics. Kyle is known worldwide as one of the best tactical shooters and trainers in the industry. The VTAC Alpha Rail is a one-piece, free floating modular rail for M4 & M16 systems. Based off the Troy Alpha Rail it features slotted cooling holes for enhanced heat dispersion. The rail is easy to install and utilizes the standard factory barrel nut, eatures an uninterrupted top M1913 rail that allows the mounting of optics and backup iron sights. This system also includes three smaller rail segments that can be added to the rail where desired for unlimited mounting options."

I held an AR with one on it and it was slender and sexy. The profile was so much nicer than the other rails I have held (except for my TDI).
