Love the books, especially if they get one of the better guys to do the adaptation.
ALWAYS better than the movie.

I don't consider this to be a true "Spoiler" report because no description of characters or names have been released. But it does describe the artwork, which some may consider a spoiler.
-------------------- Star Wars Rogue One Concept Art Looks Like ‘Halo': Band Of Space Soldiers On a Mission Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger made some pretty big Star Wars announcements during the Disney Shareholder Meeting, including a release date for Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: Episode VIII as well as Felicity Jones casting confirmation and the title of the first Star Wars spin-off. But that wasn’t all, Bob Iger also showed the first piece of concept art for Star Wars: Rogue One, which may surprise you. I think most everyone assumed that with a title like “Rogue One,” the movie would involve the first group of X-Wing pilots but the concept art shows something very different. The concept art hasn’t leaked online due to the strict no-electronics policy of the event. What’s more, all of these announcements were made for a room of shareholders and not fans, so it was near impossible to find anyone who had seen the concept art to actually describe what it showed. But like any real blogger, I harassed (I mean asked politely) and interrogated (I mean questioned) a few of the investors who attended the event and got some interesting answers. Here is what I have learned about the Star Wars Rogue One concept art shown at the event: 1. The concept art was a gritty “dark/gray image”: “very dark and done in greens, so it evoked the idea that it was being done under the cloak of night.” 2. The art showed 4-5 armored, soldier-like persons on the ground, “with two to three ships in the background.” Disney blogger/investor StitchKingdom says that the imagery “evoked concept art of a video game” and it “screamed Halo to me.” 3. “Dozens of figures in fatigues appeared to be storming something with a strange helicopterish vehicle (open on the sides) in the background, releasing more troops.” Unfortunately neither of the sources we talked to knew enough about the Star Wars expanded universe to describe exactly who the characters may have been or what ships were pictured in the background. There were tough-looking vehicles too. 1. The ships were fairly dark, and in the background. 2. They weren’t obviously X-Wing Fighters, which our sources would have recognized. 3. They “seemed a bit bigger than X-Wings”. 4. “More like a transport ship of sorts” but probably not as big as the Tantive IV (the transport ship we see Darth Vader board at the beginning of A New Hope). 5. The characters were all “generic” looking “wearing the same dark outfit.” “I didn’t see anything that would distinguish them as individuals.” When I asked LA Times reporter Daniel Miller if they looked more like Rebel Alliance fighters in orange jumpsuits or a band of bounty hunters, he replied: “Neither. They were masked but not whimsical looking like those bounty hunters (I realize whimsy & mercenaries don’t go together).” What does this tell us about the film compared to what we’ve heard already? We had originally heard that the film would follow a group of bounty hunters who were hired to pull off a heist to steal the plans for the Death Star — think Seven Samurai or Suicide Squad meets Ocean’s Eleven in the world of Star Wars. The “secret” working title for the film is Los Alamos, which you could speculate the temporary name points to the Manhattan Project and therefore possibly Geonosis. Others have reported that the film will be about Boba Fett’s family (which may not conflict with our report). And Latino-Review reported that the Star Wars spinoff won’t be a Han Solo story or a Boba Fett story, but a single film that includes both fan-favorite characters. Finally, a report claimed that Hasbro leaked the plans for the Star Wars spin-offs which included a “Red Five” film, but scheduled for 2020. The 2016 spin-off film was set to be a Boba Fett stand alone movie. One thing is for sure, Disney is very calculated in what they release to the public, and when the information/content is shown. The fact that they showed a piece of Rogue One concept art should tell us something about the film itself. The title “Rogue One” led many to believe it’s about the origins of the elite Rebel Alliance X-wing squad, so it’s very interesting that the first publicly debuted piece of concept art does not feature the signature Rebel ship. Instead it focuses on a group of armored space soldiers. A band of space soldiers on a mission could further substantiate what we heard and reported exclusively in November 2014: that the film would be about a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. |

Composer Alexandre Desplat, who has just come off an Oscar win for "The Grand Budapest Hotel," has been hired to do the score for Disney and Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: Rogue One".
Rogue One will be the first Star Wars movie ever without a John Williams score. Talk about pressure. |

More on the book front....
Beginning this September, the Star Wars Aftermath trilogy of novels will chronicle the events after Return of the Jedi and fill in the blanks between that film and the upcoming movie The Force Awakens, according to a post on the franchise's official site today. Chuck Wendig (Blackbirds, Mockingbird, Under the Empyrean Sky) will write the Aftermath trilogy, which will include a "sweeping new cast of characters, along with a fan favorite from the films." Today's post includes the Del Ray-published book's setup and poses a series of unanswered questions about the galaxy far, far away. "The second Death Star has been destroyed," Jennifer Heddle wrote. "Rumors are flying that the Emperor and his enforcer, Darth Vader, are dead. A new government is forming to replace the Empire. But the galaxy is a big place, and the fallout of this cataclysm will affect different worlds in different ways. Does everyone accept the fall of Imperial rule? Has everyone even heard the life-altering news? What rushes in to fill the vacuum the Empire has left? And who will try to stop them?" Novelist Wendig is, to put it mildly, excited for the opportunity to contribute to a franchise he's long been a fan of. "My earliest — and still one of my best — movie-going experiences as a kid was being a four-year-old watching The Empire Strikes Back at a drive-in theater with my sister," he wrote in the post. "My jaw dropped and I don’t think I’ve found it, yet. Those movies opened up a world for me, and my love of storytelling comes from them and from the galaxy of smaller, connected stories, too — from the toys to the games to the books. In fact, one of the first novels I ever read was the novelization of A New Hope. I have a son who will in a few short months be my age when I saw Empire, so to be involved with the Star Wars universe just as the new film is coming out — it feels like not only something akin to kismet, but a great and powerful privilege." Aftermath will be part of Lucasfilm's "The Journey to The Force Awakens" initiative, which will include about 20 books this fall that span from children's books to comics and novels. Some will give readers "hints" about The Force Awakens and "subtle clues about what happened to our heroes in the months following the Battle of Endor," which was depicted in Return of the Jedi's climax. In the macro, Aftermath will take place within Lucasfilm's retooled Star Wars canon. For decades, artists and writers contributed to the Star Wars Expanded Universe, with stories generally set after the events of Jedi. That didn't pose any particular problem, given that those stories took place after the final chronological Star Wars film. Series creator George Lucas sold his empire of companies to Disney in October 2012. Alongside that news came the announcement that Lucasfilm would produce a new trilogy, starting with Episode VII, later revealed as The Force Awakens. Given that a host of products told stories set after Jedi, Episode VII's existence created a canonical crisis within the Star Wars universe. What do you do with all of those stories? In April 2014, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced the formation of a story group that would oversee Star Wars canon that spans comics, games, TV, films and more. The Expanded Universe was rebranded under the "Legends" title. Aftermath is part of the newly codified canon, consistent with the events of the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, the Clone Wars cartoon and the upcoming trilogy. https://games.yahoo.com/news/star-wa...210003519.html |

As was previously reported, the first scene in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will start with a hand falling from the sky carrying what’s believed to be Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber. The discovery of the Jedi relic is what supposedly sparks the search for the missing Jedi Master. What happens in the first thirty minutes of the film after the lightsaber is discovered would include a meeting between BB-8, Finn, Poe and a vicar rumoured to be played by Max Von Sydow.
This article may contain spoilers for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Read at your own risk. Making Star Wars has broken down the sequence of scenes that will reportedly happen in the first thirty minutes of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” According to writer Jason Ward, the film starts at dawn when the lightsaber falls from space unto a certain village and it’s only when day breaks that the hand appears. When nighttime falls again viewers will see BB-8 hurrying off towards the village after being troubled by something. The film will cut off towards a scene inside a village hut, where the vicar (Max Von Sydow) is seen handing over the lightsaber to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). StarWars7news once described a concept art showing Max Von Sydow seated somewhere in a dark room illuminated by several dark-orange and bright-yellow lights. This room supposedly shows a resemblance to an area of the Cantina in Tatooine seen in “A New Hope.” What follows after Poe received the lightsaber is said to be the escape scene. Poe sees Stormtroopers slowing approaching the village. BB-8 rolls in just in time when the vicar tells Poe to leave. Poe and BB-8 make a dash out of the village while the villagers are preparing for battle. The next scene in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reportedly sees Poe and BB-8 riding Poe’s X-Wing and the Stormtroopers under fire by the villagers. Enter Finn who despite being one of the flamethrower Stormtroopers, manages to rescue a villager. The battle in the village ensues even from where Poe and BB-8 are watching from a distance. According to Ward, Kylo Ren arrives during the battle scene and is seen confronting the vicar. It’s believed this confrontation led to the death of Max Von Sydow’s character. Seeing the confrontation, Poe immediately decides to hide Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber inside one of BB-8’s panels before they decide to go their separate ways. BB-8 reportedly manages to escape and sees the Stormtroopers destroying Poe’s X-Wing and burning the village down to the ground. Kylo Ren on the other hand is seen leaving the burning village and heading towards the Star Destroyer. Kylo’s exit supposedly marks the end scene in the first thirty minutes of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” http://au.ibtimes.com/star-wars-forc...vealed-1433900 |
